I need simple porridge recipe?
for lazy bachelor girl.. thx
Answers: Do you have a microwave? I take a custard cup, fill it 2/3rds with water and zap it until it just starts to boil. Then I add about 8-9 raisins and add enough oatmeal (the old fashioned kind) to fill it just above the water line. Then I put it back in the microwave, zap it until you see the center start to raise up - don't do it any longer or it will come out of the cup!! Then place a piece of paper towel over it to steam for 5 minutes, stir and eat. I like it that way but you can also add brown sugar and milk if you like. I think it has great flavor just the way it is. My parents like their oatmeal all mushy but I like the texture of the way I gave you. Very quick. Not too much. And no leftovers. Great for a quick meal. Just buy the instant kind, you just add hot water and stir. Hope it's not too much work to boil the water.... Right now i'm doing kind of a raw food thing, with less dairy. So i buy organic old fashioned oats and soak them over night in rice milk. Maybe some yogurt - it's actually really good. Eat it almost every day.
For cooked porridge, of course you can add fruit like apples, raisins. Even tofu if you're vegetarian and want the protein.
Some thing else to try is steel cut oats. It has different names like scotch oats as well. It is just the oat kernal chopped up a bit. It's not rolled into a flake thing. This stuff is best soaked overnight before you cook it because it takes longer. But this type of oat is really good.
Also good bulk or health food stores have different kinds of flakes to use in porridge. Like spelt flakes, barley etc. I just blend them. Hi from France ?
