Marachino cherries in brownies?!

Question:

Marachino cherries in brownies?

Hi, I wanted to try putting some marachino cherry pieces in brownies. Any thoughts on what kind of consistency I could expect? How would their texture change from the baking. I am not taking alot of cherry pieces but enough to taste them and know that they are there! Sort of like when a brownie has walnuts in it. The brownie is not bogged down with walnuts but you can taste them and know they are there! :) Thanks.

Answers: I think they would be delish. Here's an example, but made with canned cherries.

Cherry Cheese Brownies

1 (16-ounce) can dark sweet cherries
1 (15-ounce) brownie mix (8x8 pan size)
2 eggs, divided
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
3/4 cup flaked coconut
1 teaspoon almond extract

Drain cherries; reserve 1/4 cup cherry juice. Put brownie mix in a large bowl. Add 1 egg, oil and reserved cherry juice; mix well. Gently stir in cherries. Set aside.

Put cream cheese and sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer 3 to 4 minutes, or until well mixed.
Add remaining 1 egg; mix well. Stir in coconut and almond extract.

Lightly grease an 8x8x2-inch baking pan. Spoon brownie mixture evenly into pan.

Spoon cream cheese mixture over brownie mixture. Use a knife to swirl cream cheese mixture into brownie mixture.

Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven 35 to 40 minutes, or until wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Let cool. Cut into squares or bars. Makes 9 squares; 18 bars.
Note: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts can be substituted for coconut. Source(s):
http://www.paradigm-web.net/ocg/recipes_... Sounds yummy, I think they would be fine, I bake them in a cake for a tropical treat I make. I live choc covered cherries. Maybe put halves on top to decorate, and to let eaters know theres a treat waiitng inside. You gave me visions I am gonna have to create a brownie like that. My bf loves brownies, but not nuts, new add in. I always use chips of different sorts, or add peanut butter to some of the batter and make swirls but mm cherries, choc chips I thank you for new outlook. Good luck Well, cherries and chocolate have been a flavor mix for years. I don't like it too much myself (prefer mint) but lots do.

I'd say chop them up a bit and mix them in. I wouldn't try changing the cooking time the first time out - and it's not like you have to cook the cherries anyway. Just chop them and make sure they're not sopping wet with cherry juice, I don't think it'll hurt the recipe much. What's the downside of experimenting? Worst comes to worst, you have a soggy brownie and you try again. I like plopping a whole cherry on top of the batter right in the middle of each square you will cut it in. If you really want yummm, skip the marachino cherries. They're the worst quality cherries from the orchards, are chemically bleached white, and then dyed red. Very disgusting and tasteless. Instead, use dried REAL cherries...I have become addicted to chocolate cookies with dried cherries. The rich, concentrated true cherry flavor is incredible. I am going to try them in brownies too. sounds delicious, im sure ur consistency would be fine, my friend make a cherry bread/cake desert and it is extremely moist, so the cherries dont dry it out, however, the ingrediaents are different than brownies, dont know until you try tho!
good luck
