Freezer Burn......?!
Freezer Burn......?
Is uncooked meat still good if it is freezer burnt?
Answers: Freezer burnt is a bit of an odd term as freezing removes heat and a burn is cause be heat. Actually, water is removed from the meat under freezing conditions. But when the water freezes, it expands and breaks the cell walls (which is one way the water escapes). And when things loose their moisture, they dry out (or dehydrate...the drying out process that went to college and got a PhD).
So in the words of Vern the turtle in "Over the Hedge"...hmm, a bit chewy, but high in fiber.
Taste is subjective, so I won't go there.
I just recall some stories about a prince being pursued by evil doing relatives and forced into poverty and starvation. A poor old lady takes him in and shares her meager food with him. As poor as the food was, he relished the delicious flavor. Later when he prevails and becomes a good king, he seeks out the old lady and rewards her by bringing her to the palace and giving her a job as the personal cook for his meals. "I want you to cook the same food that I ate on the first day we met," he requested. When the meal was served, he almost choked on it and spat it out...."That tastes terrible. It can't be the same food." "It is," replied the old woman. "But on that day you were starving."
So...who wants some freezer burnt BBQ ribs?
hope this helps...or at least made you smile...oh well, I tried.
best wishes it will taste like crap... It's still okay to eat, but might not taste as good. But I'm sure you probably won't be able to tell. I think that it might taste a little funny... tastes really bad It will taste NASTY Throw it away please! eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww....... it wil taste really bad yuck!!!! It is safe.
Freezer burn only dries food in spots. Just cut away the burn and the rest should be fine. It will taste bad. nope! Food that has freezer burn is safe to eat, but you may find the texture and taste not to your liking. I would brown it
and use it in a stew or soup depends what you mean by 'good'
it will be safe to eat,but may taste 'off'
You may be able to disguise it with some kind of marinade Things like meat have water inside them, when you put it in the freezer, the cold air seeks colder spots like water hence why your meat got freezer burned. You should put food in a bag and deflate it till theres no air in it.
It would taste off because it wasn't either deflated in bag or left in freezer without bag. Deflating it sucks out air bacteria so it can keep longer, like; how you see tv infomatierals with them selling vacuum air bags machines that suck out air is true. I have some pork that's freezer burn too and I don't think it will taste good if I cook and eat it what I am planning to do/will do is use those pork to make broth so it'll not be a waste to just throw it away... Try cutting the burnt part off! Then cook! It is awful when burnt!
