Answers: Basically anything that you can buy raw or dried and then cook tastes the cheapest and tastes the best.
Things like:
dried rice
dried beans
fresh vegetables
fresh fruit
whole meats(Whole chicken versus parts, etc)
Chicken Rice Italiano
4 med. zucchinis
4 med. tomato
5 tbsp. oregano
5 tbsp. basil
5 cloves garlic-sliced
1 cup onion
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 medium piece of chicken
3 cups dried rice
Take the vegetables spices olive oil and mix all together and a bowl before work. Discard the ends of the zuchinni and tomatoe and chop into about a 1/4 inch slices and chunk from there.
Upon returning home through the vegetables into a fry pan or on the electric grill. Fry them stirring regularly until they begin to soften about 20 minutes in. Throw chicken that has been defrosted in with the vegetables and cook for another 15-20 minutes on med-high.
At the same time as you start the vegetables put the rice with 4 cups water onto a boil and then simmer for 30 minutes.
Stir all together or keep rice separate and put onto plates.
Cost is about $5.50 for all ingredients
Bean and Cheese burritos
2 cups black or brown beans soaked overnight so that they are softened.
Colby jack cheese about 1/3 cup
Whole wheat tortillas
Boil beans for about 15 minutes until soft and hot and then drain any excess fluid and mash. Add cheese to beans and mix, letting the cheese melt.
While cheese is melting, warm tortillas on a fry pan by heating a fry pan on med heat with nothing in it. Test it with a little water to see if it is ready. It will sizzle a little. Put tortilla on dry no oil needed and turn it often as it heats. Takes about 20 minutes of cook time and serves 3. From:

Sounds gross but it is good and cheap. EASY, CHEAP CUBAN BLACK BEANS & RICE
Make a pot of rice, about 6- 8 cups cooked.
In a large skillet, brown 1 lb sausage (I use Jimmy Dean, is leaner), along with a chopped med. onion and 1 clove chopped garlic.
Add 2 cans black beans. Add 1/2 can water to each can of black beans, stir, to get all the juice.
Simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking.
Arrange rice in large serving dish with indentation in middle. Pour black bean mixture in the center.
Arrange salsa along the edge of the dish.
Garnish with olives.
This is a cheap, nutritious, delicious, and easy company meal.
The leftovers can be combined and put in single servings in ziploc freezer bags. Freeze flattened and stacked.
When ready to use, poke holes in the freezer bag, nuke about 1- 2 minutes, enjoy!
