What did i do wrong with this recipe?!

Question:

What did i do wrong with this recipe?

i was kinda experimenting with my crockpot and i dont know where i went wrong. heres what i did.

3-4 chicken breasts thawed and cut into cubes.
2 cans cream of mushroom
4 cups water
1 can peas
1 can corn
seasoning

i put all this in the crock pot and cooked on high for 2 hours and low for another 4 hours.

it was really watery, and the cream of mushroom was breaking down. it smelled pretty bad and the chicken was dry. about the only thing i liked was the veggies.

can anyone tell me what i did wrong, and what i could do to fix this?

Answers: Too much water! The vegies added extra water and so did the chicken as it cooked. You should have eliminated the water altogether for a creamier sauce. You could add 2 more cans of the cream of mushroom soup to try to thicken it up. But no more water. Your recipe sounds kind of yummy. But I would probably have baked it and topped it with biscuits or corn muffin batter to make it more like a pot-pie. you put far too much water in...i would have only put as much water in as there was soup ; two cans full....imagine what a can of mushroom soup would taste like if you doubled the water ...or imagine what a chicken breast would be like if you just boiled it and ate it....so my verdict is half as much water or else a cup of rice to soak some of it up....you can always add (a little) more water throughout the day if it is looking dry TOOOOO MUCH liquid.

You probably could have just used the one canned soup and been ok, if you wanted to water it down , maybe a half of a can of water.

Next time add some onion, and a few herbs. The chicken probably would have cooked better had you have left it in whole pieces. do not add 4 cups of water next time and remember to completely preheat the oven to 375o first before putting the pot in. perhaps it would have been good if you did it in a skillet/pan? i've never had luck with a crock pot its always gross. i would have put milk instead of water or maybe 1/2 water 1/2 milk, but only use 2 cups instead of 4 Strange, no reason for that recipe to go that wrong. I am thinking probably the cream of mushrooms was expired and probably spoiled the rest of the food, also you added an obscene amount of water to the pot. Why was the chicken dry?. That's a mystery. It cooked for such a long time. It should have been falling apart. Was that chicken in the freezer for a long time Maybe it was ice burnt? Check the can of the cream of mushrooms. Maybe the smell came also from the spoiled can. Weird, just weird You should sear the chicken first.

Then add the peas and corn, then the cream of mushroom, and maybe just a little water until you get the consistancy you want. Too much water. I would have used broth about 1 1/2 cups. You were making a chowder correct? Next time use a cream of potato, or a cream of celery/ mushroom,or chicken. Cooking time, I would say around 4 hours on high and just check. Or just stick with the low temp, around 6 hours. I would still check it in between. Also did you just dump everything in and then stirred, Make sure you wet is mixed pretty well then add the rest of the ingreds and the add to the crock pot. crock pots suck.....it almost sounds like a chicken stew....i think instead of water i would have used one can of chicken broth....i would have added a bag of carrots and 2 diced potatoes....crock pots generate steam which turns into water...so you need to add more to absorb the excess....also find that they are flavorless recipes...the only thing i have ever made in a crock pot that enjoyed was ribs and party style meatballs.... I agree that there was just to much water in it but maybe you should just cook it on low the whole time. Chicken gets dry and rubbery if cooked to fast to long. Next time try less liquid and cook on low for 4 hrs. Also try with cream of celery soup instead of cream of mushroom for a different taste. Sometimes I find it better to add the soup and veggies after the chicken has cooked for 3 out of the 4 hours. Good Luck! Next time use cream of chicken ...
Mix the soup with 1 1/2 cup of water -- mixes it up instead of a blob..laying there...
Drain the peas and corn -- drain before adding.
Micro wave the chicken breast till done...then add to the rest of the stuff and simmer for 2 hours.on low...
If ya need more water then add a little and stir --- add a little and stir....

What you did wrong was not mixing the soup and 4 cups of water -- too much... no Hi heat for pot stuff... If you want hi heat cook ing use the microwave... I believe you added way too much water. A crockpot only requires 1 cup of liquid at most because the juices come from the meat, etc. Try only 1 cup water with soups. Cook on LOW only or High if you need it sooner.
