Ounces and pints help plz?
plz help i want to buy a few stainless steel pet food bowls and i have cat food that is 3 ounces it says so on the can, if i buy a bowl that holds 1/2 pint will it hold all of the 3ounces of food ?
or would a 1 pint or a 1 quart do it ? what is the smallest size that would work as the bigger sizes cost more and i am on a budget
Answers: 3 ounces of cat food is less than 1/2 cup. (8 oz =1-cup, 1/2 pint = 8 oz.). The smaller bowl should be sufficient. Depending on whether you are using "wet" or "dry" food? Dry will take up more room as it is lighter, but even still the smaller bowl will work, you don't want to over feed your kitty. You may have to check water more often though if using the smaller bowls A pint is 2 cups, 16 fluid oz. A pint's a pound, the world around.
A pound is 16 ounces.
A half-pint is 8 fluid ounces - one cup. Your cat food is 3 *weight* ounces, which is smaller than 3 *fluid* ounces, because it's heavier than water.
So a half-pint is fine. A quarter-pint would possibly be OK. How messy is your cat? yes don't worry a pint =2 cups so, 1/2pint = 1 cup, which= 8 onces. A pint is 16 fluid ounces. Cat food is 3 avoirdupois ounces. It just happens that a fluid ounce of water weight 1 avoirdupois ounce (because that's how a fluid ounce is defined). Otherwise, you can't compare weights and volumes without knowing the density.
However, since cat food is much denser than water, it will easily fit. once you take that food out of it's container you it will take up more room. i would suggest at least a 16 ounce container
that's only 2 cups, or 1 pint. you may not always be giving exactly 3 ounce of food and in that case you would need something a little bigger than 1/2 pint (8 ounces)
try a DOLLAR store, most of them carry stainless steel bowls
for a dollar. you know DOLLAR TREE etc.
good luck.
