Lol TY, I sent my husband to the store for Vegetable oil and he brought home canola oil, and i ahve never used it Canola is made from a trademarked, genetically modified version of rapeseed. (Looks like little yellow flowers in the field.) It was made in Canada, so canola stands for CANadian Oil, Low Acid. It has a high smoke point and a very neutral flavor.

Vegetable oil can be made from corn oil, soybean oil, safflower oil, or cottonseed oil. The term "vegetable oil" is used for any oil extracted from a seed, technically.

They are interchangable. In my experience, I haven't had any better results with either canola or vegetable oil. Canola oil does have less cholesterol and no trans fats, so it is the oil of choice (besides olive oil) for cooking. Source(s):
Nutrition class, and http://www.cooking.com/advice/adgloss.as... There is really No Difference one is just canola and the other is vegtable. There is no difference with cooking with them. Canola oil is a trademarked euphemism for a modified variant of rapeseed oil, while vegetable oil is made from soybeans (because it's the cheapest source)

There is no difference in cooking methods for either oil. The only consideration should be taste. Some people are not fond of the canola oil taste, so my advice to you is try a tiny bit before you cook with it.

Good Luck!
