How do you cook bread thoroughly?!

Question:

How do you cook bread thoroughly?

Every time I try to cook bread it doesn't quite cook all the way through. I'm worried that if I cook it longer it will burn. My temp is 350 F.

Answers: Jason--- Bread should be baked at 375*F
to 400*F -- I have always baked regular white and whole wheat bread at 400*F
A 1# to 11/4# loaf of bread will be baked in
20 to 22 min. A 11/2 to 2# loaf will take
30 to 40 min. I suggest you test your oven to make sure the temperature setting is correct. Some ovens have a hot bottom temp. and some have a hot top temp.
so you need to bake on the center shelf of
your oven. If the top is the hotest tent the bread with foil when it browns to suit you .
If the bottom is the hotest sit your bread pan on a sheet pan while baking. I hope this will help you. jim b Source(s):
retired baker the trick is to cook it as long as the recipe calls for and if it starts getting too brown make a tent of foil and lay it on top of the bread and continue baking , this will prevent over browning. hope this tip helps. It depends on the size of the loaf. I give a 1kg loaf 10 minutes at 220 and then another twelve minutes at 200. When the bread begins to go brown, it's usually done. After it's baked the recommended time, test it for doneness by picking up the loaf with a hot pad and rapping on the bottom with your knuckles. The loaf should sound hollow if it's done all the way through. If it doesn't, bake it a few more minutes.

If the crust is very dark after baking it the recommended time, maybe your oven temp is too hot. Get an oven thermometer and test it to see if your oven is getting hotter than the temp you set it for. My old oven had to be set 25 degrees lower than called for. Get your oven calibrated and follow the recipe Buy a bread machine. Much easier than fussing around with kneading, rising, baking, etc, etc, etc.
