Cooking a steak dinner in a dorm?!

Question:

Cooking a steak dinner in a dorm?

For our 11 months together, I'm cooking my boyfriend a NY strip steak dinner...but we're both living in dorms this year. My common room has an oven/stove, but im missing one of those metal racks to cook it on. Any ideas how else I can prepare it?

Answers: Steak can be tricky if you haven't really cooked red meat before. The easiest way to do it is to cook it on the stove top in a pan. Olive oil seasoned with a little salt and pepper, add your steaks. Ideally you want them to be pink in the middle. So between 6 and 8 minutes a side ought to do you. Use the drippings from the pan to deglaze your sauce. Add some beek stock, a little red wine, and some herbs, boil until it's got thickness and body (it runs off the back of a spoon in a continuous ribbon). Serve with fresh vegetables and yes, sauteed onions and mushrooms. Good Luck! Sautee it on the stovetop. Add some fresh mushrooms and onions and a little red wine at the end. You can cook a steak in a frying pan. Put a little olive oil and margagrine in the pan cook on high for 8 minutes each side and yummy this will be med well. Try a crock pot....the meat will be tender. Add veggies and potatoes and your dinner will be good to go all in one pot.

And it's electric you don't have to do a thing except eat and cleanup.

good luck. Do you have a George Foreman? You could always cook it in there.
