How do you cook your steaks in winter?!

Question:

How do you cook your steaks in winter?

Ok this may sound silly, but unless steak has been cooked on the BBQ, I think it tastes gross done any other way, so rarely do I have it in winter (unless it's a nice day and I may turn on the BBQ just for a rare treat).

But if someone has a delectable way to cook steak indoors, please let me know as I'm willing to try!!!

I usually marinate my steaks, so it would need to have spices or gravy or something other than just the plain meat taste to suit my palate. I don't like "plain" meat of any kind...always needs to be seasoned or cooked in combination with something else. That's just me however! ;~)

Answers: Get a cast iron pan. Put a layer of Veggi Oil on the bottom. Heat the oil till it is smoking(Not on fire just very hot)

Throw the steak in. This sears the outside of the mean keeping the juices. do both sides like this. depending on how pink you want the steak it could take 5 min on each side or 8.

thats the best way to make a good steak indoors. They remain VERY VERY juicy.

As for seasoning... There is nothing like salt. i usually boil then in the stove. if you have a garage or a shed with ventillation you could cart the grill into there and cook, that is if you dont like broiled steak, which is relatively simalar i use my George Foreman grill If I boil a steak..the juice inside well be gone.I grill my steaks inside for the winter.I have an inside grill.I will never boil a good juicy steak like that.it won't have its right flavor anymore. You can buy one of those pans that look like a grill and coat it with oil and just cook your steak on it at high temperature. It taste very simalar to your BBQ steak...When your'e done you can cook some mushrooms and onions to serve with it.... yammmm!!!! Put on a coat and use the grill, thats what i do! I have had to shovel 2 feet of snow off it just to get it lit. You could buy one of those 2 piece stovetop grill things. You put it on a burner, electric or gas, and heat it up. The juices fall to the bottom layer to smoke. You need an outside vented exhaust over your stove though. I sometimes season steak like I would to grill it then toss it under the broiler, this takes a little practice to get your times right. I use my grill year-round ... unless you live in Antartica, it's not that hard to cook outdoors in the winter.

However, here's a few ideas. Steak Au Poive is a classic preparation: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/v...

And another: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/v...

I use my well-seasoned cast iron skillet to pan-fry steaks, usually in really hot olive oil and butter.

Beef Stroganoff is a good dish using strip steak - with mushrooms in a sour cream sauce and traditionally served over egg noodles. Thinly slice steak sauteed with peppers, onions and mushroom is great.

I love meat cooked on the grill too, but there are many good preparations for indoors too. Do a search on this site: http://www.epicurious.com/

Many great recipes there. do what you usually do just add some LAWRYS-LIQUID SMOKE AND GRILL INDOORS (ELECTRIC -OR- STOVE TOP --DO NOT USE CHARCOAL INDOORS ) !!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, what my husband and I do to cook steaks when it's just too cold, or wet, outside and can't use the grill, is do the best we can inside.

Use a heavy skillet, heat to med high heat. Sprinkle a little olive oil in the pan, tilt around to get pan coated well. While pan is very hot, carefully lay your steak (marinated or plain) in hot pan, cook for about 3 - 4 minutes per side for rare, 4 - 5 minutes per side for med. rare, 5 - 6 minutes per side for medium, and 6 - 7 minutes per side for well done -- of course depending on thickness of steak. This timetable is based on a steak that is about 3/4 - 1 inch thick. Be sure and turn your vents on over the stove -- it can get pretty smokey! Same here, it's the grill all year round! Saute in butter smoking hot. I find a saute pan is best, sticks in the cast iron. Add your seasoning at the end, don't over cook. Ground pepper and coarse salt is the best. Make a roux for your gravy. We bbq year round in Mexico, eat Thanksgiving dinner outside. I have a iron cast grill pan which cooks grills the steak add some Montreal steak spice and you got yourself an amazing steak with a baked potatoe and a nice ceasar salad. Marinate as normal (Soy sauce, onions, garlic, and a splash of Italian salad dressing). Use the broiler in your oven, heat all the way up, put tin foil on your thingy for easy clean-up...this will also help to heat your house...no wasted resources. Turn your steaks only once...enjoy
