How would you replace canned mushrooms that are required within a recipe with real mushrooms instead?
Would you have to do something to the mushrooms to make them similar to the quality of the canned mushrooms? I feel like fresh mushrooms would be healthier and better.
Answers: Fresh mushrooms are always better! I would simply slice them and saute them in butter and then add to the recipe when the canned mushrooms are called for. If additional liquid is needed (that would have been the juice from the can) you can just add a little water, wine, broth or whatever to get the right consistency. On a pizza, you don't even need to cook the mushrooms, just slice them and throw them on top and bake. No problem Just cook them. I always use fresh mushrooms for everything. Happy cooking! canned are generally in water, so i don't think it would matter. Read the back of the can, check for preservatives. Fresh you would have to clean them well and cut them. Remember, fresh have a chance of having pesticides on them... Simple. just give them a quick saute in some butter or margarine if you prefer. A very light oil like canola would work as well, just watch them carefully or you'll have charcoaled mushrooms. Just slice them and saute in a little olive oil and butter. Cool and add to the recipe. I might saute them first for a little better texture. But they should be fine. Have fun cooking! you could add the mushrooms without doing anything (assuming they're clean already) or you could sautee them in olive oil, butter, broth or wine for extra flavor depending on what your making yes u can use .the amount depends on how much you like them if you like them go wild if not go mild if it call for the juice from can ,just boil them in some water for awhile I agree with those who say to cook them.
When you cook the fresh mushrooms they will shrink and then put in ever how much the recipe calls for.
I prefer fresh mushrooms because of taste. the cans one I buy to have on hand are rubbery, but they are the ones I first learned to like.
My family was on a diet when I was a child and we ate mushrooms (to me it seemed like a substitue for meat, at the least the can ones do)
But then we ate a pizza with fresh mushrooms. I didn't like them at first. Now I prefer the fresh mushrooms.
Does mushrooms have any health benefits?
