How long does it take to boil kidney beans?
I soaked them all day and they seemed soft when I put them in the pot. I have been boiling them for about an hour and a half and they are still hard. Additional Details

1st answerer, your answer was good-just too bad you cut and pasted it from somewhere else.
And the girl who asked if there are directions on the bag, yes there are, and it says " cook until tender", so yes I did read the directions. I just thought there might be an average cooking time.
"way too long" uh..no - obviously not long enough or I would not have asked the question.

"way too long" uh..no - obviously not long enough or I would not have asked the question. Do you have a slow cooker? It's a very convenient way to cook beans. Doesn't matter if you soak them before or not...the cooking time will just be longer if not soaked. I prepare mine the night before and let the pot simmer all night and the beans turn out soft and delicious. I follow recipes in my slow cooking manual.
gere Regardless of which soaking method you used, drain and discard the soaking water. Add fresh water or broth to a level about 2" higher than the beans. Bring to a boil slowly, skimming off any foam that may appear on the surface. When the liquid is at full boil, reduce the heat, partially cover, and simmer until the beans are tender. Stir occasionally and add more water if necessary. The beans are done when they can be easily mashed with a fork or easily pierced with the tip of a knife.
Many bean recipes say "cook until done." This is because bean cooking times can vary greatly depending on such factors as variety, size, density, and age of the bean. As a general rule, most bean varieties require 1 to 11/2 hours of cooking time. Bean varieties that cook faster include Anasazi, Calypso, Fava, Baby Lima, and Trout. Varieties that require 2 hours or more include Chickpeas (Garbanzo), European Soldier, Great Northern, Lima, Navy, and Red Kidney. Lupini and Soy beans require the longest cooking times, anywhere from 3 to 4 hours.
Never eat raw or under-cooked Red Kidney beans, since they contain a toxin that can only be destroyed with thorough cooking. learn more do you have a pressure cooker? if so put them in there and bring the pressure up to 15 pounds for 15 minutes and cool down.
Other wise it is gonna take you several hours at simmer to get them done. Be sure to add only boiling water when adding more liquid to them. way too long.. Were there instructions on the bag??? Hmmm. Soaking all day and then an hour in boiling water should be enough. At least in the USA it's enough. Maybe you could start with putting the beans in water, bringing it to a boil and then turning off the heat. Let them soak for the day (or night) and then cook for an hour. Don't put other ingredients in the pot when you're cooking the beans as that will slow down their cooking through. hi nina i know that kidney beans need to be cooked really well because they contain a natural toxin (called lectin) that can cause stomach aches and vomiting. thats why i never buy them lol if you cook them well you can destroy the toxin . soak the dried beans for at least 12 hours
drain and rinse the beans then cover them with fresh water
boil them vigorously for at least 10 minutes
Then you need to simmer the beans for approximately 45 to 60 minutes to make them tender.
If you buy tinned kidney beans, they have already been through this process so you can use them straight away
hope this helped maybe for next time has maybe youve cooked them now lol Four to five hours in my five quort crock pot on high. I usually fix mine in a slow cooker all day. I dont know how long it takes others. But mine usually turn out pretty good.
