Is there a way to kill or reduce the strong fishy taste of salmon?
I want to add more salmon to my diet to get the health benefits of Omega 3 oils, but I just don't like the strong fish flavor of salmon or tuna.
Perhaps some kind of marinade or cooking sauce?
Answers: Garlic and lemon will cut it.If you fry it,soak it in buttermilk to get some of it out..Hope this helps. I always like doing terriyaki with salmon because it is a strong flavor. I have also been known to squeeze a whole 1/2 of a lemon over my piece alone when its finished cooking. Salmon can really stand up to a lot of fresh lemon juice. Actually, putting it in a casserole and baking it with other things helps - but did you know you can buy fish oil capsules? You can take the capsules and not have to taste the fish. If you can get your doctor to prescribe fish oil caps, your insurance may even pay for 'em. Really fresh salmon should not have a strong fishy taste, if it does; it isn't fresh.
If you marinate any fish in milk, it will sweeten the flavor and tenderize it so you only have to cook it for a very short amount of time.
Good luck with improving your health, I have lowered my blood pressure and cholesterol by adding more fish to my diet.
Have a good day. Lemon pepper seasoning will curb the fishy taste. Sprinkle on top, wrap in foil and bake in the oven at 400 degrees until flakey Being from WA state and Salmon is supposed to be loved by everyone there. The best thing I can recommend to do is get is as FRESH as possible. If that is not possible I suggest eating it smoked. That is the only way I can tolerate Salmon. I am not fond of the strong fish taste either. My mom will cook it with lemon and garlic rubbed into the top and lemon wedges inside of the fish "they say that helps". I'll stick to smoked Salmon. Tuna has very little fish taste if it is super fresh. Sushi that contains tuna is always some of the freshest tuna you will find. I know how you feel about the Omega 3 oils it's a concern I have also. Another source of these wonderful Omega 3 fats is soybeans, canola, walnut, flaxseed and almonds.
Good luck... Fresh fish does not smell or taste "fishy". Do not buy it if it smells. I live near the ocean so we are lucky to have "fresh" fish. It smells and tastes like the ocean.
There are Omega 3 oils available in capsule form to enhance your diet.
