Can anything be substituted for molasses in a recipe?


I'm trying to make a cake for my mom's birthday, but the frosting calls for molasses. I have corn syrup and maple syrup...kinda close.

1 cup honey; or 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar; or 1 cup dark corn syrup;
or 1 cup pure maple syrup.

Looks like a few of use just plugged "molasses substitute" into Google. Google is a wonderful tool, and you'd get your answer faster for simple things like this than coming here. Good luck with your cake. Use little brown sugar too. You are as close as you can get. They are not quite as heavy as molasses and don't have the same flavor, but they should work. You might have to adjust other ingredients a little. won't work, you need molasses Molasses Substitute

You can purchase it at any grocery store, cheap and has a long shelf life. corn or reg. kayro eill work It's a funny thing to make the frosting out of. Can you not buy Icing Sugar?Check out your request on allrecipes.com type in what you want, they should be able to help you. Any substitute will alter the taste of the cake. I don't understand why you can't just go get some molasses!
Borrow from a neighbor or a church member bring some to you!

Jeez I hope the answer isn't "lazy"!~~~~~ You can make lots of substitutions but its for mom . Why not do the right thing??
