Did your mom make you porcupine balls with red gravy as a kid?
Answers: my mom made them for us a lot growing up. In a pressure cooker. I do not even know if anyone uses a pressure cooker anymore. My many attempts at making porcupine balls have failed. My daughter really like them. So when we get hungry for them with mashed potatoes, my daughter calls up grandma and saids grandma I am hungry for your good porcipine meatballs. Then grandma says sure, come over for sunday dinner. She knows we like them so she makes extra so we can take home the left overs. Porcupine balls, yes. I don't remember the red gravy. nope. cha ching 2 points for me. The red gravy is tomato sauce or tomato soup. Mom cooked ours in a pressure cooker with cream of mushroom soup instead of tomato sauce. It was really good!
Now I'm the mom, and I make them, too. never realli tasted it before. Yes.They are meatballs with rice added to them. When the rice swells they look like porcupines with spikes. The red gravy is tomato soup. No she didn't. I looked them up and they sound good. Oh yeah!!! Love the porcupine meatballs! MMMMmmm! Yes she did. Meatballs with rice (uncooked) boiled in tomato soup.Which would be the red gravy my daddy did the cooking and he never did..... but now i want some !!!!
