Can secret recipes really be allowed?
In the days of healthier living is it really possible that companies are allowed to keep ingredients secret?
ive just watched an advert for a indian chicken dish and the chef said the recipe was secret!
surely they have to tell you exactly what your putting in your body?
Answers: Yes they have to tell you the ingredients, but not the exact recipe (amounts) - so it's still a secret recipe if they don't tell you the amounts and how they made it. fair point You would think so Get back to you on that one! even if it was crappy ingredients we would still eat it thats a very good question i agree with you mind you when my kids ask how i made dinner i always tell them its a secret Yes because they will always find a way around it, its like Kentucky Fried Chicken with its secret recipe, In the US, they have to post the ingredients, in order of their weight, on the box. The recipe doesn't have to be posted. And they are allowed to say "spices" instead of specifying what spices are involved. They can tell you the ingredients all you want but if you don't know the measurements and they way it's prepared..............SECRET!
Besides have you LOOKED at a list of ingredients lately, how many do you actually recognize or know what they are? Yes they do have to state what is in the product, but the actual amount is kept secret and the way it is made, too much of one ingredient or too litle would ruin the recipe. it's the recipe, not the ingredients that is a secret. it's a marketing ploy...they can claim it's secret by not listing the quantity of each ingredient or the method of preparing it. so, in fact everything you buy is from a "secret recipe"! The secret can be something else aside the ingredients. Sometimes is just the proportions or just the order you put them in. w.e it is, its still tasty so what the heck =p E numbers are secret. How long have they been available in supermarkets to put in home made stuff????
Exactly!!!! People can keep their personal recipes a secret, so can restaurants. Large food companies are a little different though because, while it is true that they have to list their ingredients, they do not have to disclose the amounts they use more methods of production. And as any chef knows, technique is everything. Therefore they can keep their recipes somewhat secret. sue them all Not companies that are shoving out millions of meals, no, because they are putting out meals that have preservatives in them.. to keep them on the supermarket shelves.. it annoys me that we are being sold poison.. disguised as fresh foods..
However, the small companies that are not putting E numbers in their food , which taste to die for, let them keep their recipes.. and hand them down.. let us not go completely Big Brother State!
