4 eggs
2 1/2 c. milk
1-2 c. sugar
Vanilla
Nutmeg
Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Beat together. (The secret of this custard is to beat gently until everything is just thoroughly mixed). Heat the mixture until hot, but not boiling. Place in baking dish, sprinkle more nutmeg over the top if desired and bake in a 325 degree oven for 40 minutes. There are many different types of egg custard desserts. Which one are you looking for? There's creme brulee, different curds, pots de creme, flan, and a lot more. They all basically consist of a flavoring agent (vanilla, lemon, lime, etc), eggs, and milk. The ratios or ingredients and preparation are different for each recipe. Just experiment, and you'll eventually find something that you like. I totally read this as "*** Custard". My favorite is Creme Brulee, but it's not easy to make well. And I wouldn't suggest it for a beginner. I would try a couple recipes before you make it for any guests, because it's pretty stressful making it for the first time.
