Question:

How can I get rid of the smell of...?

Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of the smell of mackerel. I have just prepared some for supper and having washed my hands several times but I can still smell it - Yuk.
Thanks in advance.

Answers: I know the feeling...........

I like fresh mackerel and hate smalls that linger on hands after washing like spring onions and garlic.

I use half a lemon to rub over my hands giving it a squeeze now and then to get the lemon oils from the zest. It gets rid of the fish smell and leaves hands smelling lovely and lemony! Use lemon juice. That is the best way to get rid of the smell of any fish you have prepared. You can either rub your hands with the juice squeezed from a lemon, or the bottled lemon juice like RealLemon. Squeeze a fresh lemon over your hands and rinse. Rub lemon or vinegar on your hands or soak your hands in sudsy water with the lemon or vinegar in the water. Baking soda works as well. Light scented candles in your kitchen to get the smell out of the air. if it is on your hands that is the problem....rub a stainless steel object(like a spoon) over them.....it works on everything from garlic and onions to fish. ?? what is that? Wash your hands with a vinegar and water solution for a few minutes and then wash with soap and water.. why not then put some nice smelly hand cream on.. your hands will probably need it after the vinegar... Use a really good soap, though.. Rub your hands on any stainless steel piece, the kitchen sink or the taps, if that still doesnt work, rub your hands (dry) with some bicarbonate of soda. lemon juice Lemon juice, or sodium bicarbonate in some cool water, don't forget the nails. well i don't no how to get rid of it but when i used chiiles i wore throw away gloves so it wouldnt get on my hands so you could wear the disposiul gloves (sorry bout my spelling) bicarbonate of soda and lemon jiff lemon juice will do the trick when you wash your hands with them!! xx
