Answers: mayo is used on sandwiches or go to www.allrecipes.com for mayonnaise recipes. The most common uses are as a sandwich spread or as a component of salad dressing, as in potato, egg, seafood or ham salad.
Mayo is made by emulsifying oil with egg yolks. mayonaise goes well with chicken, a good recipe is chicken on a sandwhich with lettuce, chicken salt and mayonaise.
or if you were after a healthy treat mayonaise goes nicely on a celery stick as afternnon tea. i use it when i make mashed egg. boil the eggs, mash them together, take the shell off first of coarse then put a spoon of mayonnaise in and mix it up. spread onto fresh bread and eat ! and i love it spread on bread with chicken and lettuce. hi there. Mayonnaise is traditionally made from egg yolks, oil, lemon juice and seasoning. not a diet food, but delicious and can be used in so many different dishes. of course it can be used as a condiment on sandwiches, but it can also be used as the basis of other condiments such as tartare sauce ( tradtionally with seafood), just add chopped capers, sweet pickled gerkhins and a dash of tabasco sauce. or a quick seafood sauce, just add some tomatoe sauce and a nip of brandy. it is also a magnificnet " secret ingredient" added to a mornay sauce along with a dash of curry powder. i personally like it mixed with some sweet chilli sauce and used to dip my crumbed chicken strips into. hope i have helped answer some of your questions. enjoy. Mayo is popular here in UK too. people make sandwich fillings, such as mixed with either mashed, boiled eggs, prawns, tuna and sweetcorn,or chicken. those fillings are also nice in a jacket potato. a popular lunch dish.

Mayo is also nice mixed with chopped boiled potato or pasta, with any other ingredients mixed in as a salad. this could be on its own,or served with meat. you could put it on bread and make a sandwich if you are broke. Or you could make egg salad, tuna salad or macaroni salad. I believe they have those in other countries too... Umm..usually on hamburgers, hot dogs, egg sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, baloni sandwiches, egg salads, deviled eggs, salad dressings ..etc give it to the food bank mmmm, the best is to toast your bread , spread with mayonnaise then put lettuce ( or greens of your choice) tomato and bacon cooked crisp ( or any smoked meat) this is called a BLT (bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich) you can substitute just about any meat for the bacon or even just have your favorite vegetables and no meat. Mayo spoils quickly if left out of the fridge after opening so me sure to keep it cold. I wanted to tell you to be SURE and keep it in the refrigerater after it's been opened! And, anything you use it on will need to be kept refrigerated if not completely eaten right away. You can't keep it out at room temperature like some of the othe condiments like mustard and ketchup.

I use it for a spread on many different savory sandwiches. I also use it to make deviled eggs, egg salad, tuna salad, and dressing for potato salad. It's good on sandwiches. It also makes a great base for dip.

Cheese Spread:

2 cups shredded Jarlsburg (or gruyere or swiss) cheese
2 cups chopped onion (yellow or sweet)
1 cup mayo

Mix all ingredients. Bake in oven 350F (I think that's 176C) in baking dish for 45 minutes. Serve spread on flatbreads or crackers. Serve warm or cold. Here is a great tasting recipe using mayonnaise.

********SALMON-SOUR CREAM BAKE
2 (8 oz.) fresh or frozen salmon steaks, cut 1 inch thick
1/4 c. dairy sour cream
1/4 c. mayonnaise or salad dressing
1/4 c. green onion
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shredded Cheddar cheese (1 oz.)
Thaw salmon, if frozen. Place salmon steaks flat on cutting surface. Halve steaks lengthwise perpendicular to cutting surface, removing center bones. Place the 4 pieces of salmon in a 10x6x2 inch baking dish. Bake uncovered in a 450 degree oven for 12-15 minutes or just until fish flakes easily with a fork.
Meanwhile in a small bowl combine sour cream, mayonnaise, green onion, lemon juice, salt. Spoon over salmon. Sprinkle cheese on top. Bake 3-4 minutes more until sauce is just heated through. Makes 4 servings. Mayonnaise is a condiment (thick sauce) given to us by GOD! (joking) but close!
.It is made by blending egg yolks at a high speed while adding oil until the desired consistency. it also has the addition of salt, vinegar, mustard depends upon the recipe you follow.
commercial mayo probably is more complicated in its ingredients.
but Hellman's is by far the best in flavor and closest to homemade.
mayonnaise is like a basic cold sauce. and the base of hundreds of dishes, pasta salads, veggie salads, meat salads(spreads) it holds together anything you can chop and throw in a bowl.or it can be the base of salad dressings or dips.
Its most common use here in America would probably be for sandwiches. you know sandwiches right? (2 pieces of bread with mayo ,mustard, your choice of meat and cheese, some lettuce, maybe some pickles.)
We also have something called Miracle whip which is a mayonnaise look alike yet is sweet and tangy.a lot of people prefer it.I like mayo best, as I feel miracle whip covers the flavors of meat and cheese in a sandwich, and it doesn't go well with mustard which is my next favorite condiment.
Ive copy/pasted wikis mayo page for you. hope this helps.
