Problems with defrosting meat in the microwave?!
Problems with defrosting meat in the microwave?
Hi, I was in the process of defrosting beef for a stew in the microwave and still had a while to go, when my son came home from school and wanted to heat up a snack. He did this then replaced the defrosting meat but did not change the dial to back to low. On hearing the finish bell I opened the microwave to find the meat bubbling and mostly cooked through. Can I still use this in the stew or is it now dog food? Additional Details

Thanks for the answers so far, but is it safe, as it went from frozen to cooked within a few minutes?

Thanks for the answers so far, but is it safe, as it went from frozen to cooked within a few minutes? Nah - It'll make a good stew, you're good to go. Source(s):
zipper It may get stringy, and prob won't brown as well, but it should be okay. Try browning the meat (as best you can) and adding red wine to build a sauce to add the complexity that you will not have because of lack of fond on the pan. It should still be fine. Since the meat is almost cooked though I would cook the other ingredients first then add the meat in towards the end. Sure you can, it's just pre-cooked and the stew will be done as soon as the veggies are soft. I don't thaw in the microwave. I fill a large bowl with cold water, make sure the fish or meat is in a water tight wrapper (if not use a zipper bag) and put it in the water for about 30 minutes. Sometimes it needs to be turned over to thaw thoroughly. This especially works well with ground beef for hamburgers or meatloaf. yes you can still eat the beef! nothing wrong with it unless you got plastic melted in it. just go on and cook it on the stove as you normally would.
i do allot of defrosting meats and one way I do it too is put it in a large plastic bowl and fill it with very hot water let it set for a few minutes and the pour it out and re fill with hot water again you might do this a couple times .
if you want to defrost it an hour or 2 ahead of time just place it in a bowl of hot water and leave it till you get ready to cook. Sure you can use it.I cook frozen meat all the time.My steaks seem to be real tender when I cook them that way...
