What are some easy brown bag lunches for kids?!
What are some easy brown bag lunches for kids?
Any one know of healthy and easy brown bag lunches, that maybe don't require to be kept cold or need to be warmed up? I need some ideas.
Answers: Kids eat out of necessity and then want to go play or socialize before the end of the lunch break. Food has to be eaten by hand. Mini carrots, peanut-butter crackers, grapes. That is the favourite of my kids. Cold cuts with crackers, or there are are a thousand combinations of cold sandwiches that can be made quickly. My kids like raw snow peas. We cut up watermelon (when it's good) into handy pieces, same with cantalope. We always ensure that they have a protien, a veg, and a fruit. They get ice cream or cookies when they get home, but we do not pack dessert in their backpacks because we know they would eat that first and abandon the rest. Good luck. Source(s):
Proud father of three. PB&J with an apple, bottled water, and a cookie. That was always my favorite as a child, and all of that can be kept at room temp if need be!
Also, lunchables is a great idea too. Yummy and decently healthy for a cardboard box lunch.
Hope this helps! In America Pb&j or balogny is good ALSO freeze a sports drink or whatever in a plastic bottle overnight. by the time lunch rools around it will be thawed out and good and cold my kids take their lunch every day. some of their favorites are PB&J (of course) turkey wraps (I use ranch dressing instead of mayo) and chicken tenders. They love just room temp chicken tenders. Pack it with some grapes and maybe some goldfish crackers and you have a delicious and healthy lunch.
Also check out www.allrecipes.com I found some different ideas there, too. Use tortillas to wrap any thing you want. They do not need to be warmed up after you have heated them on your stove. Make sure you do it in the morning before the kiddos go to school. It will be worth it.
If you prefer bread...use turkey meat, put dressing (mayo) on one slice of turkey then top with another slice of turkey. This will help keep the bread from getting soggy. Freeze the drink and add to bag in morning. This will help keep the sandwich cool until lunch time. my son stay at school during lunch hour .i pack kool kid juice with tuna sandwich or chicken or egg sandwich or some times cheeses sandwich for him .some times i give him kraft dinner in a plastic container .
always cookies as a sweet dessert after lunch. SURPRISING SANDWICHES
Crunchy Turkey Avocado Pinwheels
For a crunchy, tummy-pleasing treat, make these easy roll-ups instead of a sandwich. On a whole wheat tortilla or sandwich wrap, layer sliced turkey cold cuts, sliced or shredded cheese, and guacamole (store-bought or homemade). To make it crunchy add shredded carrots, and sweet pickle slices or baby gerkins. Roll up tightly, slice into four pieces, and wrap individual pinwheels in aluminum foil or wax paper.
Cream Cheese Hearts
Show them you care at lunchtime with this clever alternative to peanut butter and jelly. Slather fruit spread and softened or whipped cream cheese between two slices of bread. Cut sandwich with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. To keep it healthy, use low-fat cream cheese and all-natural or low-sugar fruit spread instead of jam or jelly.
Cucumber Carrot Wrap
Here's a smart way to get more veggies in your child's diet. Peel and slice a cucumber into thick slices, shred a carrot, then slice and drain extra firm tofu into thick pieces. Generously spread your favorite nut butter on a whole wheat tortilla wrap or pita pocket. Layer cucumbers, tofu, and carrots. Roll tightly, and cut in half. Wrap each half in foil or wax paper.
Toasted Waffle Sandwich
This unusual lunch sandwich is made from two toasted waffles. Spread almond butter on one waffle, and layer it with sliced bananas. Top with the second toasted waffle, and cut in half for a delicious sandwich that's also rich in iron and potassium.
Peanut Butter...BETTER!
Give an old stand by a new twist. On your child's next PB&J day, try introducing some new flavors. Instead of peanut butter, try a different type of nut butter like almond, soy nut, or cashew butter. Or replace smooth peanut butter with chunky style. In place of the grape jelly or strawberry jam go with orange marmalade, apricot preserves, or mango chutney.

Curly Pasta Salad
Instead of a sandwich, try this. Prepare curly pasta (such as fusili or spirals) according to package directions. Makes a great side with a sandwich too!

Colorful Fruit Kabobs
Here's a new way to get kids to eat more fruit. Thread strawberries, green and red grapes, cherries, or melon balls onto plastic coffee stirrers. Chill over night, then pack in a zip-seal plastic bag. To create a cool at-home snack, make a bunch of fruit kabobs and place in a zip-seal bag. Put the bag in the freezer and chill until all the fruit is frozen.
Homemade Granola
Give store-bought granola an extra kick by adding dried fruit like blueberries, raisins, or apricots. Other add-ins include chocolate chips, pistachios or sunflower seeds, and nuts like pecans or walnuts. Your kids will thank you.
Yogurt Add-Ins
When packing yogurt for your child, give her a zip-sealed bag of treats to add into her vanilla or plain yogurt. Favorites include raisins, dried blueberries, craisins, diced dried mango or pineapple, shredded coconut, sunflower seeds, or granola. fresh cut fruit... cheese wedges/slices/sticks... meat cubes/slices... crackers and a little bag of nuts. Carrot sticks, throw in a pickle, a couple of olives. You can get the little ranch dressing containers like they have when you buy hot wings, those are great! Freeze the juice (buy it in the little boxes), by lunch time the juice is melted enough to drink and it has kept the food cool.
