How do PEEL a pomegranate?!

Question:

How do PEEL a pomegranate?

Hi,how do you peel a pomegranate, without smashing the grains and get your hands stained? I love them , but every year, I get the same problem .

Answers: To peel a pomegranate, first cut off the crown and gently scoop out some of the center core without disturbing the seeds. With a sharp knife, score just through the outer rind around the fruit in quarters. Put your thumb in the core center and gently pull apart the sections. Peel away the inner white papery skin covering the seeds and discard. Gently invert the skin inside out and the seeds will pop out to be easily removed without bruising.
How to separate pomegranate seeds
The unadorned, fresh seed pips make a beautiful edible and colorful garnish. This is why you will see them used often on gourmet dishes from salads to entrees to desserts. They work with every course.

To facilitate separation of the white membrane from the pips, place cut pieces in a bowl of cold water and gently separate the juicy seeds.

The membrane pieces should float to the top of the water for easy separation.
How to juice a pomegranate
If you want the juice, but not the seeds, you have a number of options:

? Use a food mill to grind fresh juice from the seeds, leaving the seeds trapped in the mill.
? Pulse the pips in a blender with short bursts and strain.
? Cut the fruits in half crosswise and ream them as you would a lemon.
? Place the seeds in a sealed plastic freezer bag and roll over them with a rolling pin.

The above methods may impart a touch of bitterness due to abrasion of the seeds, but the bitterness should be minimal if you have a light and patient touch.

You can also slow cook the seeds in a bit of water in a crockpot or on the stovetop, and press through a sieve or cheesecloth to remove the seeds. This method takes more time but results in less bitterness. Source(s):

My kids & I love them too & we just resign ourselves to the mess. cut in the sink (with water running, or submerged) in 1/2 then in 1/4's To peel a pomegranate, first cut off the crown and gently scoop out some of the center core without disturbing the seeds. To prevent your hands from getting stained, use surgical gloves. http://homecooking.about.com/od/fruit/a/...

Try this website. The first time I ate a pomegranate I used this website and it was really easy...no stained hands. I actually ate it at work.

Good luck! Sit the pomegranate upright. Make several (4-6) vertical slices from the bloom end all the way (180 degrees) down to the bottom of the fruit, making sure to slice the whole way through the skin, but not so deep so as to get into the seeds. This will leave you with several separated "sectors". You can then pull out each sector, which will come out with the seeds attached. Then you can pull, scrape, extract the seeds from each sector easily by bending the skin back against its natural curvature. Hopefully this makes sense without diagrams! you have to wear rubber glovesand boil before you try to peal them. Cut it in quarters (4 pieces). The put the 4 pieces in a large mixing bowl filled with water. Pull apart the red pieces away from the rind all under water. This will keep your hands clean and the red color will just stay in the water in the bowl.

Also, doing the whole thing under water helps to separate the pieces. A lot easier to get the stuff you want and remove the stuff you don't want.

I can usually do this process in just a few minutes. Mari M got it, that is the way we were trained to do it a Le Cordon Bleu......hold the entire thing underwater in a very larg bowl and you'll be surprised at how easy that makes it......Enjoy!!
