Yep added milk and butter! I feel useless in the kitchen grrrrrrr and just want to be able to cook for my man. add milk and butter as suggested by other answers but it would seem you have got the meat too runny it should be firm. leave it for a while to cool. spread the potato on top;use a fork to spread, cover it with grated cheddar cheese and put some slices of tomato on top i guarantee you will love it .If you are local to Chingford ,London I am available for lunches and dinners Have you put a small amount of milk in your potatoes as you mashed them? Always works for me. pipe it like u would an icing into a CLEAN bag wit a corner cut out an squeeze it thru Start outside in and make sure meat is cool not hot as it needs time to set a bit about half hour works for me. add butter or olive oil to potatoes then mash You need to have the mashed potatoes moistened with milk or broth, and some butter, so they're not so stiff and sticky. I like to spoon them into a pastry bag with a 1-inch star tip and pipe them on the top of the pie so it looks nice. What I tend to do is to mix milk and butter to the potato to make it fairly soft, then spread it over the top. To decorate, I use a fork and drag lines going across the whole surface, then I make little lines going in the opposite direction a bit like: ##==##==##, then I sprinkle some grated cheese over that and bake until the cheese is golden brown (not Gordon Brown)
