Has watching food related television ever enhanced or inspired your cooking?!

Question:

Has watching food related television ever enhanced or inspired your cooking?

Answers: I love watching any food related show or t.v. station. I especially enjoy watching Paula Dean and Iron Chef. I've been cooking professionally for over 24 years until I retired from food service and now cater occasionally and compete in food competitions. T.v. shows give me tons of new ideas and ways to change my own recipes to improve taste, appearance, etc. My family still don't understand why I watch food shows but, they sure appreciate my cooking! I use a few of Paula's recipes but, mostly get ideas of ways to make my recipes different and special and improve on them. I see wierd and unusual things on Iron Chef and try what I've seen the chefs create. It keeps my inspiration going. Would I go back into the food service industry again? Hell no! I enjoy the medical field much more and I am paid much better. I still love to cook and catering once or twice a year is fine by me because it's under my terms and rules. But, cooking shows are great entertainment and forums to get an idea started and , good wholesome family education. My children ask many times "can you do that?" or " You can do that better than they can". I love that! I watch the Food network all the time. However I have always liked to cook. It comes to the whole chicken or egg first thing. Absolutely. I tend to watch the shows and keep a running commentary....like " I would do this instead " or " I would add this..." and my husband loves it. Because in every circumstance the chef says "or you can do this instead" or "if you like, you can add this"... Freaks him out, but it is funny enough that isn't not "scary". I do the same with football, so I guess I'm well-rounded?

I tend to take recipes and change them to suit my taste, other people's taste or allergies, or just to experiment. It's like being an alchemist. By working with all the different foods, spices and methods of cooking, you learn what goes well with something and what would be hideous together. Yes. But it mostly makes me hungry. I love to see all of the different ways that something I like can be made to taste. I have so many recipes that I want to try it is not funny. Problem is hard to cook for one. Yes of course. I'm eighteen now, and I really do need to learn how to cook. Of course my mom has taught me a lot, I'll give her credit too. Watching the food network has inspired me to make delicious looking meals and desserts, especially if I'm going to be cooking for someone else. Yes. I used to cook just plain nourishing English food, or a simple lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, but since being housebound I can knock up something which is tasty and not boring. I always have fresh lemons, lime, garlic, ginger, shallots and lemon grass, and lots of pots of herbs in my kitchen now, and just by adding a little of each can turn something boring into something very tasty! lol:-D
