Oven baked jacket potatos?!
Answers: how do i bake potatos in the oven, at what temperture and how long does it take? do i have to wrap it in foil?
Temperature is 350 degrees. The time is based on the size of the potato. Prick it three times with a fork. Rub it all over with butter, wrap with foil and bake. If you don't want the extra fat omit the butter part. Add salsa or any other topping after it is done.
Wash large russet potatoes well, place on rack in a 350 degree oven for one hour fifteen minutes. No foil. That's it.
By the way, Dan Quayle lost the presidential race because he could not spell POTATOES.
Ingredients
4 large (220g) Sebago potatoes
Topping 1
420g can salt-reduced baked beans
1/3 cup grated tasty cheese
Topping 2
250g low-fat cottage cheese
1 small avocado, peeled, diced
1 tomato, deseeded, diced
Topping 3
3 rashers bacon, trimmed, finely chopped
1/2 cup light sour cream
1 tablespoon chopped chives
Method
Preheat oven to 200°C. Scrub potatoes with a brush. Pat dry with paper towels.
Using a fork, pierce potatoes in about 6 places. Place directly on oven rack in the centre of oven. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until tender when a skewer is inserted into the centre.
Cut a deep cross in top of each potato. Using a clean tea towel to hold potato, squeeze base gently to open up top. Add your choice of topping and serve.
Topping one: Place baked beans in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until heated through. Spoon over potatoes and top with cheese.
Topping two: Combine cheese, avocado and tomato in a bowl. Spoon over potatoes.
Topping three: Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add bacon and cook, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes or until crisp. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towel. Spoon sour cream over potatoes. Sprinkle with bacon and chives.
Notes & tips
Potatoes with the skin left on have more fibre for a healthy digestive system.
I rub olive oil on them and sprinkle with some coarse salt and put them on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven. The amount of time depends on the size of the potato. Usually around an hour, you can squeeze them and when they are no longer hard they should be ready.
OMG... you spelled potatoes wrong!
AhhhAAHHhhhAaahHHHH!
It sure is a good thing that you're not running in the presidential race!!
The spelling police are out today!
Pull ovah!
I always microwave them first (reduces cooking time vastly) then put in hot oven direct on shelf, then they're crispy on outside yet light and fluffy in middle. 15-20mins Yummy:)
I put my in the oven at 200 if it a medium i give it about 1 and half hours if it is a large pototes i give it 2 or 2 and half hours
Perhaps it's because I am from the South but I put canola oil and course salt on the outside and bake on 400 for 11/2 hours if it is a large baking potato. If it is a medium 1 hour will be fine. I have never heard of baking at such a low temperature.
