Apple struessel muffins... can I leave out the wheat germ?!

Answers: I have a recipe that calls for wheat germ in the muffins.. can I leave this out or what can I substitute this for? I looked forever last night and could not find it at the grocery store... so how important is it to the muffins??

Here is a recipe for Apple Strusel Muffins without the wheat germ:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups flour, all-purpose
1/2 cup flour, all-purpose
1 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cloves, ground
1 cup apple, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/4 cup butter or margarine

Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, baking soda, and cloves.
2. Stir in apple and walnuts.
3. Combine eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter.
4. Add flour to the mixture.
5. Stir until just combined.
6. Spoon batter into greased muffin cups or pans lined with paper bake cups.
7. For streusel topping, in a small bowl stir together the 1/2 cup flour, the brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
8. Stir in softened butter.
9. Sprinkle over batter in muffin cups.
10. Bake in a 400 F oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
11. Serve warm.
You can leave it out. Add flour in place of it or check things to sub for it on the internet.
