What is the difference between a corned beef pastie and a corned beef pie?!

Question: i recently made a corned beef pastie ( pastry on bottom of baking dish fill with corned beef potato and onions pastry on top) when i told my partner that i was cooking a pastie he said it was a pie i have always thought that it was a pastie and we have a debate now over whether it a pie or a pastie his idea of a pastie is a piece of pastry filled and folded over please help so we can clear the matter up and i can make more pasties. thanks

You made a pie. A pastie is a single circular sheet of pastry folded over a filling typically made of meat and potato, so that it takes the form of a bulging semicircular spheroid. A pie is invariably made by placing a filling in a dish (either oblate or circular) which is either lined with pastry or not but which is invariably topped with a pastry or potato "lid".

I hope the pie was nice. Incidentally, corned beef hash is to my mind a way nicer way of using corned beef, onions and potatoes, especially if you add a good glug of wine at the mixing stage and top it all with a fried egg.
A pie has a shaped base and a lid. A pasty has a single piece of pastry wrapped round the filling.
What you made was a pie. Your husband is right and pasty is a circle of pastry which is filled and then folded in half and sealed.
