15 bean soup...?!
Answers: I have a package for 15 bean soup. I want to cook it in a crockpot. Do I still soak the beans overnight. How much water do I put in? How long do I cook it for? Low or high heat? Thanks!
15 bean soup is wonderful!
yes, still soak your beans overnite or at least do the quick soak where you bring them to a boil then leave them sitting for one hour.
beans take forever to get done in a crock pot if you don't!
Cover the beans with water completely, add more during cooking if they start to look dry.
High Heat for probably 8 hours.
By the way, if you add a ham hock or two they will be extra good!
There are many recipes, here is just one:

INGREDIENTS:
1 meaty ham bone
2 cups Navy beans or mixed beans, washed, sorted, and soaked overnight
8 c. water (3 c. more may be added after bone is taken out, then cook some more)
1 clove garlic, minced (or 1/2 tsp. garlic powder)
1 bay leaf
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp. honey
Salt & pepper, to taste
PREPARATION:
Wash beans. Combine beans, ham bone, water, garlic, bay leaf, and onion in slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 hour. Turn to LOW and cook 8 to 10 hours longer, until beans are tender. Season with lemon juice, honey, salt, and pepper, to taste.
Remove ham bone; chop meat and return to crockpot. Remove bay leaf before serving.
Serves 6 to 8.
I usually boil them for about 5 min then drain off the nasty water and then put them in the crock pot,,only fill it up half way or 3/4 of the beans arent covered well and cook on high. you can add more later of you need to or take them out to and pan and boil them down later.
Yes, soak them all night. I usually boil them for a couple of minutes, too, before I put them in the crockpot the next day. It makes them cook faster. Put enough water to cover them well, and how long you cook it depends. If you put it on high, you just need 3-4 hours usually. On low, it will take 6-8 hours. It also depends on the crockpot. They are not all created equally!
