My kids are now 21 and 17........and I can't get them in the kitchen with me like I used to. We used to love to make cookies, cakes and pies and things like that. They loved to decorate cookies and cupcakes.

But at two, if she can count, it's a great way to introduce math skills..........yes, math skills. I started my kids out with just making pudding from a box. If the recipe called for two cups of milk, I'd give them a half-cup measuring cup, and let them figure it out. Eventually, we would change the measuring cup size, and they caught on to fractions pretty doggone well.

But to me, cooking with your kids is a wonderful thing. They learn some math, they have to read directions, and they can also learn about different cultures if you introduce them to ethnic cuisine.

Good luck and have fun....it's never to early to start her out cooking!!!!
just do simple cheap things with her, every kid loves to make chocolate rice crispy buns or toffee covered apples on sticks, just a couple of ideas.
I used to make cookies with mine, but I wouldn't recommend that to others. You need to find something that is:
1) not messy
2) few ingredients
3) safe - no eggs (salmonella) or knives required
4) fun - something they can actually help with

Bread or biscuits may be a good idea and they can get their hands dirty mixing with you. Just try to get her involved in whatever you are cooking anyway where it makes sense to have her help instead of embarking on a big project just for her.
Hi there,

With a two year old, it is not necessary to actually make sometime that you can eat. Put an apron or bib on her, give her a pan of water (or something) and a spoon. Let her stir and stir. She will have loads of fun. Meanwhile you can be popping ready made cookies into the oven. OR hold her hand as you both cut the pre-made cookie dough and let her put them in the pan for cooking.

When my daughter was young, she loved making herself a peanut butter sandwich. Messing, but fun.
Cup cakes ,,, let her help you mix the batter, and after their done let her decorate them, this what I used to do with my Daughter when she was younger,we used small tubes of icing, with decorating tips and candy sprinkles or sugar cookies ,and used cookie cutters,Christmas,Halloween,Thanksgiving and decorated them too, make brownies, cakes, pies.the holidays are very close, once you get her started cooking she may want to help with other foods as well.
have your child to help with cooking basic things like spaghetti and making toss salad. you might even want to open a can of biscuits and let her place the biscuits in the pan after she butters it. you can even let her help you bake a cake out of the box and let her reward be licking the bowl and spoon. kids love this. for the summer you and your child can make ice cream, popsicles and snow cones. this is an added treat for all children. but if you just something you can do together, all children love arts and crafts. these are sure winners.
when my daughter was 2, we used to buy ready to bake cookies. she would take them from the package and put them on a baking sheet, then i would put them in the oven. to her, that was making cookies. she would also pour (with my help) the ingredients into the bowl for brownies, and stir.
