Can I put Chillies in the oven to dry, and then crush them or is there another way to do this.?!

Question: You can do the oven method or thread them up to dry. We do the latter. You do NOT take out the seeds when you crush them as the seeds are what gives it the "heat". After they are dry, put them in the blender and turn on high setting. DO NOT take lid off till the dust settles. It will choke you. Trust me. Been there done that.

  • I perfer to take a needle and thread and run the needle through the stem of each and hang them until dry.. it's not a quick process but it works great
You can, at the lowest possible oven setting - until the chilies can be crumbled.
Remove the seeds and grind the chilies separately.
    Yes you can =)

Put gloves on to protect your hands and so you don't transfer pepper oils to your eyes and mouth after.

Slice your peppers in half and remove the seeds. Place each half of the pepper, cut side down on a baking sheet.

Save the seeds and let them dry out naturally, then you can grind them to give your chili peppers some heat.

Dry them in a warm oven 150F or so over night or all day until the peppers are dried.

Edit: Here is a link of various ways to dry chili peppers.
what kind of chile? overhere in the southwest we sun dry our red chile and then grind it
