What is the one recipe that makes it a truly traditional Thanksgiving for you?!


Question: I am looking for some different recipes this year to try out on the fam. and I would love to hear everyone's favorite traditional recipes for the holidays that I might like to try. My all time favorite is chicken breast meat boiled to make its own broth with those frozen (Remes, or something like that) noodles cooked in the broth and served over mashed potatoes with a big buttered hot roll on the side.. Okay, Im making myself hungry now.. Your turn... Lets hear it!!

I make homemade cranberry sauce, i start with a bag of fresh cranberries, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of water and i boil them till they pop and turn them down and let them thicken and put in containers and we have sauce homemade and not from a can...
pizza and wings for me!
Roasted turkey or chicken;
Stove top dressing with gravy;
Mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top;
Green beans;
Cranberry sauce;
Stuffed eggs;
Black olives;
Mincemeat pie for my husband;
Pecan pie for me.
Iced tea and water.
I and my family love this baked corn recipe

Baked Corn

3 eggs
1-14 ? ounce Can Cream Style Corn
1-14 ounce can Eagle brand sweetened milk (low fat or fat free is OK)
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 Tablespoon corn starch

Separate the eggs and mix all ingredients except egg whites. Beat the egg whites until frothy but not stiff. Fold egg whites into the mixture. Place in a covered 1.6 liter – 2 qt. casserole dish, bake at 350 covered for 30 minutes, remove cover and bake 30 minutes more.
mmmm my favorite is cornbread dressing. yummy now i'm hungry thinking about it.
ok so heres the recipe. make cornbread and no NOT cornbread from a jiffy cornbread is not supposed to be sweet!!!!! cornmeal from a bag. lol that part is VERY important. ok so make ur cornbread in a cast iron skillet (this very improtant too) ok so after you've made your cornbread and its cooled crumble it up. add in a bowl 2 cups chicken broth, 2 cups chopped celery, 1/2 chopped onions, 2 tbsp sage, salt and pepper to your liking then pour over the crumbled cornbread and mix together. the mixig goes best if you do it with your hands so u can make sure the cornbread is moist . put the mixture into a pan sprinkle with sage and bake for 20-30 mins.
then you have homemade cornbread dressing to go with your turkey or chicken :-) enjoy
Here is the Cranberry Salad recipe that my sis-in-law makes and it is the best!! Even friends that do not like cranberries like this!

Cranberry Salad
1 lb ground cranberries
1/2 lb cut marshmallows (or miniature)
3/4 cup sugar.

Mix and let set overnight.
Next day add:
1 cup Tokay (red) Grapes peeled and seeded (I just wash them and cut them in half)
1/2 cup nuts - chopped
1/2 pint cream whipped ( not Cool Whip[)
Topping
1 small cream cheese
1/2 pint whipping cream
2 good-size handfuls marshmallows.
Combine and let set overnight or a few hours. Whip and serve.
I make my own fresh turkey noodle soup from scratch.

I just take the left over turkey carcass, pull whatever meat is left over, throw that in a container, then put the carcass in a large pot, filled with water, and boil for about an hour. This makes my own stock. I then let the water cool, pull the carcass out and toss in the trash, then store the stock in the pot in the fridge over night.
The next day, I strain the fat solids from the top of the liquid, strain the liquid from anything else, pour it back into my pot, then start making the soup using left overs. I usually add in carrots, corn, celery, onions, a bit of garlic...anything you like in the soup. I'll chop up a few handfuls of turkey meat, then add egg noodles. The soup is rich, flavorful, and very healthy, and also a great way to use up those leftovers!!
Here's a great Thanksgiving side dish:

Yams with Goo
This is a Pennsylvania Dutch recipe

Boil yams in water the night before you want to serve them. When you can pierce them with a fork, then remove from heat and allow them to cool. Refrigerate overnight.

2 hours before dinner, melt 1/2 a pound of frozen butter and 1-1/4 cups of brown sugar in a large skillet on low heat. Add 2 or 3 TBSP water. Remove yams from fridge and cut into eighths. Arrange in skillet on very low heat and let it alone. Turn them after about 35 minutes and let them cook through on the other side. Add tiny amounts of water if the goo gets too thick. Serve in a shallow dish with a little more butter melting on top.

This dish represents one of the sweet foods in a dinner of 7 sweets and 7 sours that are a traditional Amish holiday meal. Thanksgiving isn't the same for me without the smell of stuffing cooking and this dish. Even if I can only have a small portion this year, I will still enjoy it and I hope you and your family will too.
green bean casserole but since my hubby does not like mushroom instead of cream of mushroom I use cheddar cheese soup and it give it a new twist . good luck .
It's not Thanksgiving with out Sweet Potato Pie: :)


SWEET POTATO PIE

1 partially baked 10 inch pie shell
3 eggs
2 c. mashed sweet potatoes
1/2 stick butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. light brown sugar
1/2 c. dark Karo syrup
1 1/4 c. evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1/2 tsp. lemon flavoring
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ground cloves

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Separate egg whites. Beat 1 egg white with 1 tablespoon water and brush over pie shell. Bake pie shell for 10 minutes in oven, remove. Beat egg yolks and add sweet potatoes, melted butter, sugars, syrup, cream, salt, flavorings and all spices. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into sweet potato mixture. Pour into pie shell and bake until knife inserted in filling comes out clean, about 40-50 minutes.
