This recipe got funny looks, but was never left behind.
Prepare elbow mac
dice up ham steaks
cut up one small apple(mackintosh)
butter milk flour... roux(melt butter, ad flour and let it cook til pretty yellow, add flour slowly and continue to stir till bubbly and thick
add seasoning, i use brown mustard salt pepper and some brown sugar
combine ingredients in casserole dish
melt butter in saute pan, add brown sugar make a thick sauce like mix add bread cut up or tore up you choose size saute until bread is saturated with sauce. spread over top of casserole, cook 350 till bubbly and brown, I am addicted to the topping to this dish LOL I have omitted apples and added broccoli and cheese to the sauce, leave out sugar crouton w/o suagr too. Thats tasty too, but love the looks of whats this chic up to, then the looks after that first bite, and I know I did good. Enjoy if you try it.
Make split pea with ham soup. Get a bag of dried split peas, cut in a couple of carrots and a sliced onion, cut in the ham, salt, pepper, and alittle time. Comes out wonderful and is easy.
Scalloped or au gratin potatoes

Cottage cheese and pineapple salad

Bert
Scallop potatoes and ham would make a nice side dish.
