Yellow split peas - have i soaked too long?!

Question: I meant to soak my yellow split peas overnight to make soup and i forgot about them the next day (yesterday). I've just put on the soup to cook but maybe I'll end up poisoning my family as they've soaked 24h extra? Any reasurances before I throw out the pan of soup?!

I don't think you'll poison your family LOL! Your soup will be cooked at boiling point for a couple of hours? I think that will kill anything that may or may not be in the split peas. If anything, the might be a bit of low level bacteria in the soaking water which will be killed by boiling. It's not like you left out raw chicken at room temperature or anything.
rinse and use there be ok
i make lots of bean/pea soups. split peas are so small that you don't really have to soak them. low and slow is the way to go with soups.....6 to 8 hr to make a pot. they freeze well and are one of the few things that actually taste better when reheated.....ps, don't forget the bone. just rinse and use and it should come out alright.
It should be just fine... I've done that before and no deaths occured :) Don't throw out your soup.
An upside is your split peas will be nice and soft!
