Recipes ask for "large" eggs. How large are we talking?!


Question: 'Large' is a standard size given when grading. Pullet eggs are the smallest and look like large white jelly beans. The largest I've seen are 'Jumbos'.

In grocery store, eggs in their cartons are marked as small, medium,and large. That is all there is to this. Buy the large.
Large eggs are 18 ounces per dozen (averaging 1 1/2 ounces each)

you`re lookin at about 1 1/2" by 2 1/2" eggs if you go to the grocery store the package should say "large eggs"
Large eggs are the culinary standard when shell eggs are called for in a recipe .If you don't see the egg size mentioned then you can safely assume that the recipe calls for large eggs,
According to the USDA large eggs will weigh a minimum of 24 oz per dozen or about 2oz per egg.
Every step up or down in size represents a 3oz minimum weight per dozen difference.
