Need help with a meal plan for two!!!?!


Question: Yep its that time again! Time to head back to the ol' grocery store and buy food for the week..lol, but im really stuck in a rut..my husband is the pickiest eater i have ever met. He usually eats Hotdogs, Burgers and Fries, Spaghetti, Sandwiches, Pizza, and fried or baked chicken, he says that its manly food..lol Ugh, im 35 weeks pregnant so i eat anything and everything under the sun and love to cook, so after a while of cooking the same dull things over and over agian, it gets annoying. Can anyone who has a husband who enjoys only "manly food" lol throw a couple of different ideas out there that we might both enjoy?? thanks

If hubby is happy with "Manly" food - and you love to cook - then make him his manly food - making enough to serve 3-4 people. But fix what you feel like eating - for yourself.

To many people think that if the other person they are with doesn't like something, then they can't fix it and eat it anymore - WRONG!!! Get creative for yourself!!

You have lots of suggestions from other people but this is one thing I recently had to teach my mother!!! She was raised to think that if her husband (my father) didn't want to do something (and she did), that she couldn't do it. I showed her that if he doesn't want to do something (or eat something), that's his choice - but SHE has a choice too - and it doesn't have to be just like his.

So, keep that in mind. If there are 4 servings of hot dogs - he'll have hot dogs for 4 days - and grow tired of them. But you'll have maybe 4 different things to eat during those 4 days - just for yourself. It's so easy to cut down a recipe to serve a small quantity - even cakes. And if you LOVE to cook - like I do - it will become a challenge.

I know others said with you pregnant, he should be fixing the food. I ENJOY cooking and DON'T want my hubby to cook for me - it's not his forte' so why should he be forced to do something HE doesn't like to do - that choice thing works both ways.

i have a million recipes but refuse to share...make him cook for you, duh.
I can think of a few manly, "stick-to-your-ribs" type of meals so here goes:
- Shepherd's Pie
- Pot roast
- Steak& eggs
- Fried pork chops
- Baked Mac&Cheese
- Chili
* Just be sure you have a darn good recipe. Perhaps if it's possible, ask his Mom for a few family recipes that he loves. Happy cooking!
FRIED RICE!!!
Almost everyone I know loves mexican, LOL.
(yes I'm not retarted, I know that it is actually itailan) LOL.
From New Zealand, I will open up my cook book and find you something delicious.

Bacon and Egg Slabs
Grease a rectangular oven dish and line with flaky pastry. (I use ready rolled)
Fry off trimmed and diced bacon and allow to cool on paper towels. Place in dish and make wells to drop 4 eggs in. Pierce the yolks and cover with another sheet of pastry. Pierce the pastry several times with a knife for steam vents. Brush with milk.
Bake in a 180C oven for 35-45 minutes until the pastry is golden.
Turn out and allow to cool a little then cut in 75mm squares.
(you could add raw sausage meat or substitute the bacon)

Club Sandwiches
Take four slices of bread and spread them with butter or margarine.
On the first slice place ham and some mustard. (Optional)
Place the second slice of bread on top of Ham, and cover with mashed egg, seasoned with S&P.
Place the third slice of bread on top of egg, and cover with de seeded tomato, seasoned with S&P
Top with forth slice of bread, spread side down.
Cut crusts from the sides and cut into fingers.

If possible get a loaf of caterers sliced bread.
It is cut lengthways, instead of across, so you can make several at a time.

Mouse Traps.
Toast 6 slices of bread
Sprinkle with grated tasty cheese and cut into fingers.
Bake in a slow oven for 30-45 minutes until crunchy.
Store in an airtight container.
Vegemite under the cheese tastes nice and sweet.
Bacon sprinkles could also be added.

Sausage Rolls.
Flaky or Short Pastry.
450 g tube of Sausage Meat.
Diced Onion.
Mix sausage meat and onion with about ? cup of water.

Take one sheet of pastry and lay on the filling in the centre third.
Fold one side over and brush the other with water and press on top.
Turn over and cut into rolls 3’’ long or cut into 3 or 4.
Make 3 cuts on top of each roll and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
Brush with milk and bake about 30 minutes at 215C (425F), in a pre-heated oven.

Savouries (Baby pies).
Mince.
Bacon and egg.
Fish.
Potato Top.
Line your greased muffin pan with puff pastry and add the filling of your choosing and add pastry lids.
Brush with milk.
Bake at 160C for about 40minutes, until the tops are golden.

They can be made in advance to reheat at the appropriate time, or make another dozen and put them in the freezer.
I know the whole manly food thing...lol...my husband is the same way. Here are a couple of recipes I made for him that he absolutely loved...

1.Sonora chicken pasta
----chicken breasts (grilled)
-----penne pasta
-----black beans (drained)
-----diced tomatoes
-----queso cheese dip (whole can)
-----sour cream (just a scoop on top)
Just make the pasta, then warm up the queso and add it. Next add the black beans, tomatoes, then the chicken. Scoop a spoonful of sour cream on top.

Meatloaf

------1 1/2lbs of hamburger
------1/2 cup crushed Ritz crackers
------1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
-------2 tbsp A-1 sauce
------2 eggs
------2 tbsp ketchup

Combine the hamburger, crackers, and cheese until mixed thoroughly. Then in a seperate bowl whisk together the eggs, A-1 sauce and ketchup. Then combine to the meat mixture. Cook at 350 for 45-60 min.
To be honest, his choices sound more like a teenager than a man. I enjoy all of those items every couple weeks, but I'd hate to have them every week!

Think about beef stew, swiss steak, lasagna (so it's different than spaghetti), pork chops, meatloaf, pot roast of beef or pork, chicken and rice casserole. You can make 4 or 6 servings of any of these and then freeze them in double portions. (I call them planned overs instead of left overs!) I put away pint containers of spaghetti sauce so they're available for a quick but delicious dinner for 2.

Have some good meals now and then let your hubby make or buy his "manly" foods after your baby is born! Hope all goes well with the birth and that you both enjoy parenthood!
I have the same problem . . . well aside from the pregnancy. I love to cook but my signifigant other grew up in rural Ohio and only likes the everyday food. Mac and Cheese with Hot Dogs would be be all they ate.

My answer is make the foods they love but make them GOURMET! Things like this

Mac and Cheese - Made with fresh pasta and fresh greated Gouda and Aged Cheddar. I also like to add a bit of Gorganzola. Then bake it all in a casserole dish.

Teriaki Burgers - Mix ground beef (ground round) with Teriyaki sauce and chopped chives. Grill and brush with extra teriyaki sauce. Topp with a slice of grilled pinapple and serve on Hawaiian rolls (King's brand)

I have lots more that are certianly fun to cook and look very MANLY!
