I have friends coming from Berlin. I want to serve them an American Meal. What should I make?!
Answers: Raw oysters in nylons and a fresh cucumber. LOL
Have a backyard BBQ. Hamburgers, hotdogs, shichkabobs, potato salad, watermelon. mmm the good stuff. Dont forget the all american Coca Cola
Barbecue Ribs,
Beer battered Onion rings
Corn on the cob
and Apple Pie for dessert!!!
yum!
you should make them something
like fried chicken, hamburgers, or
macaroni.
A nice BBQ
america has such a vast difference in meals, from things like hot dogs and hamburgers which i would consider america foods, to things like qusadias you could have a bbq and feed them from that then have fire works to me an outsider seems extreamly american.
I love fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. It is one of my favorite meals. A nice apple pie for desert with vanilla ice cream, yum. =)
pizza and donuts
sauerkraut with ketchup!!!!!!!!!
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, green beans, and sweet tea.
Hot dogs and apple pie.
I like the idea of a backyard barbeque, although I suspect they have eaten hamburgers and sausages before. (American hot dogs don't compare to German sausages, I'm sure.) How about roast beef with baked potatoes and vegetables?
Steaks off the grill, mashed potatos, corn on the cob, biscuits and gravy. Apple pie with ice cream for desert, and plenty of coffee.
Maybe something middle of the road like roast chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and gravy. Either that or hot dogs and apple pie.
Pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn , dinner rolls and for dessert-apple pie,
burger and curly fries
Berliners? Everyone eats pork over there, so if you can base your meal around that you should be guaranteed a good reception.
Burgers aren't too popular (apart from in Burger King - there must be 100 BK restaurants in Berlin [but only a handful of McD for some reason]), and US sausages will be an embarrassment compared to German ones so avoid. Meat is generally preferred in a still recognizable form rather than minced / finely chopped. The suggestion of a BBQ is a good one accompanied by potato and salad side dishes if the weather allows.
NY Style cheesecake will go down well as a dessert. A side portion of a fruit compote would be appreciated.
Drinks, don't embarrass yourself by serving Bud or any of the Bud-like beers, Germans take their beer very seriously and you'll create a bad impression if you serve them fizzy pop. Wines - a dry/medium dry white is preferred to red.
Whatever food is local to your state will be fine. To avoid any embarrassing moments, though, I'd check if they have any allergies or foods that they're not comfortable with.
There's no such thing as an American Meal - unless it's a MacDonalds, and Germans can get those at home.
Hot dogs; apple pie; COLD, light beer
True bar b que originated on the American south. Tomatoes are native to the Americas, despite their popularity in European cooking. This time of year, fried green tomatoes are perfect. Maybe corn on the cob. Pumpkin pie would also be very American. The more I think of it, the more I realize that the traditional Thanksgiving dinner is probably what you're looking for. Just not so much food all at once.
hotdogs,mcdonalds,doritos, lol
Hamburgers and Wieners mit ketchup and sourkrauts relish.
No mayonnaise.
No White bread at all,to germs is insulting as of you consider them good only for toothless babyfood. If not found full rough rye bread loaves, you can always let the bread get old so it turns hard.
Plenty of Beer pilsner.
Serve them pizzas,burgers,French fries and
chilled beer. For dessert creme brulee would do.
If not ice cream would do too.
Serve them anything that you have learned to like in the US.
Our food is a mixture of so many different nationalities, that what is considered common fare may have actually come from another country. What could be more American that hot dogs at a ball game, yet the belief is that the first hot dog was a frankfurter from your friends country.
Americans love pasta and pizza from Italy.
Some would say that a truly American meal would be fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy or potato salad. However the Scots brought the recipes for fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy with them from Scotland.
If you are a meat eater, why not just keep it simple with a couple of really good steaks, little red potatoes with butter and parsley, a nice green salad, and whatever vegetable is in season, steamed with some fresh herbs and lemon?
Pick up a really good bottle of red wine to compliment the meal . Perhaps a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the American wineries.
Tossed green salad, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, steamed veggies. For desert: fruit cobbler.
Either grilled Milet Mignon steaks and a salad with everything in it...or...
A homemade pizza with everything on it...lots of beer and/or blended drinks, and then the hard liquor later...
Woo Yaw!
Hamster smothered in sourkraut (under glass)
Some suggestions for 'American' dishes, take your pick:
1. Southern fried chicken, biscuits, gravy, slaw, baked beans.
(german potato salad beats the tar out of southern potato salad...dont go there.)
2. Smoked beef brisket, (or pork ribs) garlic toast, fries, salad, your favorite barbecue sauce.
3. Fried catfish nuggets, okra and tomatoes, cajun or wild rice, (consider vidalia onion rings when deep frying seafood)
4. Your favorite traditional Chili con Carne (not mexican style) served with cheese, crackers, fried tortillas, and hot sauce, on the side.
5. Broiled or chargrilled snapper, steamed: broccoli, zucchini, crookneck squash, cauliflower, and rice of your choice.
6. Traditional baked ham, (preferably Smithfield) fresh snapped green beans cooked w/onion bits and red potatoes, hot greens seasoned with some of the ham, garden salad, and cornbread.
7. Hot apple, cherry, blueberry, or blackberry cobbler, served with vanilla ice cream.
pizza
Get take out Chinese food like we all do.
Berlin? Hmmmm, give them something that will make them jealous of the U.S!
