Im trying to make chocolate mousse...?!
1. In large bowl, beat EAGLE BRAND?, pudding mix and water; chill 5 minutes.
2. Fold in whipped topping. Spoon into serving dishes; chill. Garnish as desired. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.
Do you think that using cook and serve would be ok? (I don't even know what the difference is between cook &serve and instant!) Any help would be appreciated!
Answers: and the recipe calls for 1 package of instant pudding mix, but all i have is the cook and serve kind. and it says:
1. In large bowl, beat EAGLE BRAND?, pudding mix and water; chill 5 minutes.
2. Fold in whipped topping. Spoon into serving dishes; chill. Garnish as desired. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

No, it is not the same at all and it will not taste or work right. what you can do is cook the pudding by the directions, but sub the eagle milk (evaporated milk) and then cool after that, fold in the whipped topping.
the difference between the cook and serve is that cook and serve has a stronger flavor and different stabelizers in it that thickens it as opposed to the noncooked kind. I think that the cook and serve will taste much better than the instant as long as you let it cool thoroughly before folding in the whipped topping. the heat will make the topping deflate and melt.
to cool it faster, spread it out in a large pan like a jelly roll pan or a 9/13 and pop it in the fridge or freezer for a while.
No offense, but it's not really chocolate mousse if the recipe calls for pudding. Find a different recipe.
