Does whipped cream cheese work just as well as (or better than) regular cream cheese in frosting?!

Because it has much more air whipped into it, making it much more workable for a frosting.
It's easier because it's whipped already. You don't have to mix it as long. If you mix it too much you'll take the air out of it.
