Have you ever made "baked" beans in a slow cooker? If so, are they as good as making them in the oven?!

Question: My friend asked me about buying a pot to bake beans in the oven. But since she is shaky and has such poor balance, I suggested that a small slow cooker might be better for her to buy. So I'm just wondering if the beans made this way are as good as those done in the oven.

I had always made baked beans in the oven. But last year, knowing I wouldn't get home in time to cook them the several hours that mine do...I thought..hey, I can just put them in the slow cooker. Wrong.

They didn't have the juices cook in to the beans and out of the pot to allow the beans to get thicker (the way we like them). About 3 monthes ago, I decided to try making them in the slow cooker one more time. This time I reduced the molasses and ketchup. Though it helped, they still weren't the same.

I'm sticking to the oven version, but you never know...your friend may have the ingenuity to come up with a great way to do them in a slow cooker. Either way, she is fortunate to have such a friend as you who thinks of eazing the essential daily tasks like this and caring to help her live as best she can within her limitations.

Thanks for inspiring me to remember the seemingly small things in life that surely can make a real difference.
Why don't you prepare them both ways..Thanx for your consideration..
