8 YEARS??? you should be making this for your HUSBAND. he needs to pop the question, right now. good luck.
Steak is fairly easy to cook on a bbq, just grill on low heat, if you use high it will cook faster on the outside and still be raw inside. Add some baked potatoes and ceaser salad and you have an awesome dinner.

Can't help you with the wine as I don't drink it, but red is best with beef.

Good luck
here it is..

Best Steak Marinade

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon grainy mustard
2 tablespoons red wine
pepper
2 steaks

Mix all ingredients and place in heavy plastic bag.Add steaks of your choice.
Marinate a few hours.
Grill your steak on thw BBQ or the inside Griddler. Enjoy!
Cooking time is the marinating time.

World's Best Grilled Steak

4-5 choice beef steaks
1/2 cup soya sauce
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 teaspoons ketchup
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon pepper

Blend all ingredients, pour over steaks.
Marinate 3 hours, turning frequently.
Grill to your liking.
Go to your local meat market to get the best steaks - tell them that you'll be grilling them, so that you'd like them on the thick side. Rib-eyes and NY Strips are nice cuts with a lot of flavor. Filet's are a leaner cut (less fat) but are also really nice. Ask them how long of grilling that they recommend for the cut and size that you end up buying - be sure to tell them how you like it done so they can give you an accurate estimate If it's a great steak, you really don't need to add anything to them seasoning wise, just make sure that you let them sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before grilling...they will grill a lot better this way!
Nice sides just depends on what you both like, but roasted asparagus is nice with steaks. Baked potato is a classic with steaks, but you could do mashed or something different. Also good to start with a nice salad, and of course a bottle of red zinfandel is perfect with a hearty steak!
why not just buy some food outside and just put it on plates and everything...lol...;)
or why not go to a restaurant?
