Why is eating the crust on bread better for you?!

Question: It's all made out of the same stuff, yet we still say to kids, "eat the crust, it's good for you." It's not, is it.

Sorry but it is.There is a substance in brad thet rises up into the crust and gives you much more nutrition than than the rest of the bread.

Did you know that the tooth fairy doesn't exist either?

Er...its not. Sorry to burst your bubble!

eating the crust on bread is not better for you - parents just say that

this made me lol.

...

lol.

no...

Something we all heard as kids, and say to our children. Now that mine are older, I just tell them it's wasteful and to eat it!!

it depends what bread your talking about. wheat bread always has the grains on the loaf so it is very healthy but the other ones are probably good too!

not wanting to echo what others had said, but no the crust has no more nutritional value than the rest of teh bread.
the crust is made in the baking process, it hardens and browns (especially on the top) becasue it is closer to the heat.

Parents will say this just so they dont leave food behind.

Another popular misconseption is that it will make you hair curly, again for the same reason.

Hope that helped

Where did you get that idea? The crust of the bread is no different from the rest of the bread. I certainly don't cut it off because I like the texture, but it's not any better for you. The skins of some fruits and vegetables are definitely better for you though. Maybe that's where you got that idea from?

My dad always used to tell us "Eat the crust, that's where all the vitamins are"--you know, just like potato skins and apple peels. He knew better and so did we, but unlike some, we saw the joke! :)
