Has anyone ever bought one of those pre-cooked turkeys for Thanksgiving?!
Answers: The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to figure out what to do for Thanksgiving with my son in school. He has roommates and I don't know if they are all going home for the weekend, so I don't want to cook at his place. We thought about getting a hotel with a full kitchen in it, but our kennels don't have pick up until that Monday and it would be too expensive to put the dogs in for 5 days when we'd only be visiting my son for the one day. He probably will be working at midnight that night due to Black Friday, so I want to be able to do something fast and thought of those turkeys. I also thought of making the dinner here at my house on Wednesday and then taking everything up in containers. I don't want to eat at a restaurant. It has to be a home cooked meal, but I'm wondering if those turkeys get dried out when you reheat them. Anyone have any experience, good or bad with these turkeys? Thanks!
I did it was one of those pre-cooked smoked turkeys. Oh my goodness it was sooooo good. I have every intention of getting one this year. I'm not even hosting Thanksgiving this year but I'm bringing the turkey.
Oh and to the first poster yes anything in a bag is good. Turkey, chicken, pork chops or pork steaks pot roast. Everything comes out tasty juicy.
Now you got me thinking about Thanksgiving. The food, the family, the cooking, everything I love Thanksgiving. Bummer, it's over a month away.
I don't know about pre-cooked, but last thanksgiving I bought a "turkey in a bag" thing that had all the directions and gravy in it, you just literally cooked it in the bag it came in. It was sooo easy!
my hubby & i have gotten these before, and i have to tell you, it was almost better than the one my mom made and took all day. it was juicier and the taste was delicious! just follow the directions!
I've never had one of those before; I'd be afraid of the same thing you are.
If I were you, I'd prepare the meal ahead of time and transport it in containers.
I have been very tempted to pick one up on special occasions. Never have. But I have heard they are just as good as what you can do yourself in 5 hours or so.
I really don't think I could force myself to pay that much, besides my husband loves to smoke them on the smoker every season. And when he does not smoke one we get one from Sonny's Bar-B-Que.
If you have a Sonny's Bar-B-Que near you they will have one smoked for you. And if you don't check around where you live and see who will smoke one for you. It will come ready to be heated just like the one you will get from the store with all the preservatives in it.
I bought a whole meal last year for Thanksgiving at Meijers. It was very good, and really inexpensive. I don't think I will ever knock myself out cooking all day again!
if you are talking about the one that most grocery stores do , i have never had a problem with them. It is best of course to preorder it. Get it fried if possible they are so much better.
Go vegetarian!!!!!!
Are you referring to the precooked turkey in a bag that you reheat in the oven? I tried one last year and it was great!! Be sure to find it on sale, they are rather pricey. But honestly it tasted like fresh roasted.
