Was "Chicken Tikka Masala" invented by the English?!

Question: I heard that Indians were using Chicken legs and other parts, so the English people told Chefs to use 100% Chicken breast.

Is that true?

You have been told a pack of lies on the Chicken legs bit but YES Chicken Tikka Masala was invented probably by a Bangladeshi chef in London or chef in Glasgow - origin disputed. It all began with some tomato soup!

Indians had nothing to do with Chicken legs etc. The whole thing was invented in UK. Fact! Most Indian meals in the West aren't authentic anyway.

For instance, cows are sacred in India and therefore they would not have created Beef Curry. That is why I shy away from these places, not to mention the Halal restaurants that claim to be Indian but again Halal is Islamic and not Indian - Against Indian religions and culture in India. A Halal Indian Restaurant is an oxymoron i.e. the two don't go together.

EDIT: Glasgow is curry capital in UK, which has been for decades, and therefore I tend to believe it was invented here in the UK!

more than likely

Sorry m8....don't care how it was made, tastes great!!! :)

I believe it was invented in Scotland, as for the chicken, I'm not sure.

Sorry is this similar to Chicken Marsala? That I thought was French or Italian.

Yes the English invented chicken masala, arent they so clever!

I believe it was but the basics of Indian food are Indian...I was visiting Japan and found out that a Balti was a dish from Birmingham,England. Food for thought....or for after 15 pints of lager!

It was in Glasgow

It's not a true Indian curry it is made for British taste.

It's origins are actually unknown

some claim that it was made my Bangladesh chefs in British restaurants

some claim that it was made for a Scottish man in Glasgow who found his curry dry and wanted some gravy with it

some claim it was from British India adapted for us.

Most people don't even agree on what goes into it even.

So it's made for the British but nobody really knows who invented it.

As for chicken parts Indians only used legs and quarters and never breast. All Curry's in British restaurants are made from breast because us Brits don't like the bones in our food.

Balti chicken tikki masala was invented in Birmingham anyone in Birmingham can tell you that!

Not the English - the Scottish! Apparently it was invented by a chef in Glasgow.

I think it was invented by a chinese englishman, living in scotland, who had an irish chinese mum, and indian welsh dad, and a welsh african grandfather and a cockney english grandmother!! So you could say its an english invention but then again!!!!

It's an Indian Dish.!!!
