This is one of our favorite things....I promise it is going to look hard but seriously is SOOOOO easy...and once you do it and taste it you will never think twice about making it!
1 package beef stew meat, cut into bite size pieces and sprinkled with meat tenderizer if you have it, if not...so what...thats the good part about this recipe...so easy!
1 large onion, diced
4 large carrots, sliced
2 large potatos, diced (with or without skin, i keep mine on)
6 celery stalks, sliced
all the leafy greens from celery, minced
1 tablespoon minced garlic (like the kind that comes in the pre minced jar from Spice World)
beef boullion granules (you have to use some of these but you can replace the second time you use them with beef broth)
6 to 8 cups water
plus 2 cups water
3 tablespoon veg oil
2 bay leaves
SLURRY MIX TO FOLLOW
Prep your meat by chopping. Prep your veggies, chop them.
Heat a large pot with oil. Add the meat and 2 tablespoons of bouillion granules and the garlic.....cook over a high heat stirring ALLOT!!!! Brown it nice to carmalize it. Once it is carmelized, add 2 cups of water and boil on very high heat until the water evaporates ad you have meat and a paste in the pot....watch it close once the water goes out...stir allot....add all the veggies (not the taters) and the bay leaves and about 4 tablespoons of the granules...or sub 1/2 the water with low sodium beef broth and cover with water...BOIL THIS....once it is boiling turn to a simmer and let it go for an hour, stirring about every 15 minutes. Remove bay leaves, add taters and simmer for 10 minutes until taters are done.....taters will thickin it...but now we are going to add a "slurry"....
Slurry...
Mix 2 tablespoons cornstarch to 1 cup water...bring the pot to a boil and add "slurry" slowly stirring the whole time...it will thickin FAST and you WILL NOT use the the whole cup....just use as much as you need...you will know.
Seriously, this is SOOOO much easier than it looks....good luck and have fun..
You could also add a can of green beans, some mushrooms, anything YOU want to...
Good luck
two potatoes, two carrots, one onion one green pepper. four cups water one package stew seasoning one pound cubed beef. follow instructions on packet of seasoning. brown beef and mix in vegetables... im sure some one else will probably go to foodnetwork.com and find you an awesome recipe.
Brown some beef or venison (or both) pieces real good and toss them into a crock pot with some chicken broth. Let em kick all day and about an hour before eating toss in some diced taters and carrot, some onion some chopped garlic, bay leaf, woo sauce, steak sauce, liquid smoke, ketchup,a tad of all of these PLUS some soy sauce, and whatever else you want and let it cook till the veggies get tender. A stew is just some browned meat that's been cooked tender and some potatoes carrots and WHATEVER you want.Don't forget the kitchen bouquet!Kitchen Bouquet makes the stew taste fabulous. It is a demi-glaze that really kicks up your stew a knotch or two.
if you get stew meat, cut it in smaller chunks. Brown them in the bottom of your saucepan with a little oil and some onion slices. You want the onions to get nice and brown so be sure to put them in with the meat. Chop up whatever veggies you want or you can use frozen. canned potatoes are ok in this too, if you are in a hurry. Add your veggies and a big can of V8 juice. If you like tomatoes in it, add a can of diced tomatoes -- the italian ones are great in this and any herbs or spices you like. Simmer over med-low heat until the meat is tender (less than an hour usually, depending on the size of the meat -- the smaller the faster. I have made this on a weeknight after coming home from work and it made an excellent lunch the next day. Serve it with cornbread or french bread.
