What's the deal with paninis?!

Question: They do look delicious but as far as i can tell it's just a fancy grilled sandwich...so all you panini fans tell me why they are so popular :)

I think it's because people are always looking for something new and exciting. Yes, it's just a fancy grilled cheese sandwich, but there are so many different things you can put in them that it excites people. I served 4 different kinds in my cafe, and they were a huge success.
