You can steam them in any pot that has a lid. Simply add your liquid, I use dry white wine with garlic, butter, red pepper flakes, and a little sea salt. Add the liquid to the pot, ~1-2 cups, add clams, cover, bring to a boil, and wait for them to open. Discard any that do not open.

When buying them, look for the freshest, priced per clam, (e.g.: .39 cents each) smell clean and are firmly closed.

If you go into your profile and go under the questions you asked it will be right there and you can see what you thought was the best answer the last time as well as the rest of them.

Make sure all the clams are closed before you cook them. The open ones are dead. You can use any pot or pan to cook clams. Get the water boling and drop them in. Just put a couple of inches in the pot and they will steam. When they are done they will all be open. You don't need a colander...just take them out and put them on a plate with some melted butter on the side. Ummmm. Makes me miss the seafood we used to get North of Boston.

Look for closed shells -- that's the best way to tell if they are still alive and fresh. As for steaming them -- do you have aluminium foil? crumple some in the bottom of a pot -- add salted water about half-way up and bring to a boil -- turn down the heat a bit to keep a steady steam going -- then lay your clams on top of the foil. Keep an eye on the water though, you don't want to boil it all out. Enjoy!

I had brought home some clams from a friends party that weren't cooked yet and I tried them in those new Ziploc steamer bags - they worked fine but since they are smaller bags I had to do multiple sets to get all the clams done.

Someone else told me to just do them in the pan with a tight fitting lid in a little water - just enough to cover the bottom. I didn't try that so I am not sure.

just get some fresh clams, in the shell. One pound will serve 1 person. rise well, and put in a pot. Add about 1 inch of water, and some salt. cover, and heat until the shells open. remove with a slotted spoon, or whatever you have, let cool slightly, and remove clams from shells. Be sure to remove the covering on the foot. Dip in butter, and there you go. Enjoy

How on earth did you get to level five if you can't even find questions you asked ?????

Damn, some people have the nerve to tell others to look back at their profile and talk down on them??? WYF! Even though I can't eat them, I like to get my grill nice and hot and throw a little pyrex or aluminum container with some olive oil (not a lot, jus a lil) with about 2 cloves of garlic (smashed to let the flavor out) and a cube of butter and let it melt and while thats doing its thing I throw on the clams to the grill and they open right up. let them sit for a little bit and then get a spoon or fork and dip it in the butter sauce. it's great when you have guest because everybody is around a nice wrm grill and they all can b/s til their hearts content
