Milky substance in onion?!


Question: I bought two onions, cut one and milky stuff came out. I cut the other, and same thing happened?

Ive bought many before, and this hasnt happened.. what is it?
Is it not safe to eat the onion?

not a problem. That's just the natural juices of the onion. Sometimes you notice it, sometimes you don't.

I think it just means they are a bit older. But they are still ok to eat. Onions last a LONG time.

Its fine. It's called "milk" but what it really is, is simply that you got a REALLY juicy and ripe onion. No harm in it at all.

Maybe something spilt on them, id say rinse them off and you'll be fine. they have been over watered in the produce section or something. Nothing to worry about...

over ripe onions, good for soup stock and cooking, but not good enough, in my opinion, to eat raw

The only thing i can think of is they are holding allot of water in them. I can't say that has happened to me.
