What can you substitute for buttermilk in baking?!

Question: It is for a chocolate cake...thank you

Answers: It is for a chocolate cake...thank you

I don't know from personal experience, but I found these substitutions for you. Plain yogurt or 1 Tbsp vinegar or lemon juice in 1 cup milk (let sit for 5 minutes). This is in baking only, not fresh dressings.

Whole milk with a couple of tablespoons of vinegar.

MILK OR CREAM!!!!

YW

Milk mixed with vinegar. I think its a tblsp vinegar to a cup of milk...but you may want to verify that. let it sit for 10 minutes. (if you don't have vinegar lemon juice works).

Place 2 Tablespoons white vinegar in a measuring cup and add milk to make 1 cup. Stir and let stand for 10 minutes.

This is the standard sub for buttermilk in baking.

I cannot belive it's not butter! works for me!

To make pretend buttermilk, add 1-3/4 tablespoons of cream of tartar to a cup of milk, or add a tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes. In many baking recipes, you can also just use plain yogurt or sour cream instead of buttermilk.

Take 1 cup whole milk & add 1 tbsp of white vinegar.......Works good for cornbread too!!

Milk and sour cream.

I use lemon juice to change milk to butter milk just like a tsp to cup

You can use sour cream instead.

You can't. Try a different recipe.
