I am having a hard time feeding my family of 5. Is there a dish that is inexpensive that would feed them?!

Question: I have a crock pot. If it is something that I could put on in the morning, even better! Thanks

You can put any kind of meat in there plus potatoes. Chicken is always the cheapest. Get a pressure cooker...they cook in minutes, and it'll fall off the bone.

Pasta and rice is always cheep. Do those in a variety and change the meats up with salad on the side every day or a vegetable.

Cabbage soup is good and inexpensive. Just ask Charlie Bucket.

beans on toast or a good jacket potato =D

MEATLOAF

beans and rice is a complete protein. throw in a green vegetable as a side. lentils are a great legume.. try lentils, rice and broccoli with some indian spices.. they call lentils 'dal' over there.

Spam and Rice. Lots and Lots of RICE.
Elephant bags of rice for the price of dirt and water.

Put a pack of pork chops and a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of cream of celery soup add enough water to cover the meat nd let cook all day

Serve over rice!

tomato soup

make a homemade bean/turky soup and trust me it lasts all week.

spaghetti

Franks and beans are the least expensive feed.

.....Spaghetti..... it doesn't cost alto to make and just buy a Can of tomato sauce... that's what i always make and it feeds a family of 6

Hamburger soup- If you want the recipe. Email me....Its great. Feeds an army! I know it doesn't sound the greatest but its good and doesn't cost a fortune either. My dad made this and it fed a family of five for 2 days.

In Louisiana we cook Gumbo and jambalaya. Both dishes can be as cheap or as expensive as you want to make them. They were dishes born for feeding many cheaply. Try looking at those recipes on the site below.

yes,you can cut out coupons they help save money, another way is 2 make beans, they last long, and also if you make meals n bulk , for one day cook all your meals for the entire week, then you can freeze the rest, zip lock bag it..ect..that way it saves times ..going to places like bj whole sale buying food in bulk helps too.recepies that have all their tastes like a mixed meal with vegetables they all like ..stuff like that helps..

Any kind of pasta is inexpensive. Search "crock pot recipes" and you will find a lot of sites for that.

Chili is inexpensive, or shepards pie. Also lots of soups are easy to make.

As a general rule, start with a good base of rice, noodles, or potatoes - all inexpensive and filling.

Add to that some kind of flavoring - sauteed meat and heavy cream, for example. Use the meat for flavor, not for filling - that is much easier.

Of course, don't forget to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Try greens (Kale, mustard, Collard). These you can cook in your crock pot.

Well a pot roast is always great and if you make a big one it wil last you for about two days....Another meal that is cheap and fulfilling is tacos....Just by bread and or flat bread and let the kids feed themselfs....buy can food and chips..... teach them to cook and let the oldest cook for you....I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters and I am the oldest of six.....so I had to cook all the time and now i am married and my wife does not know how to cook it will also help them in life and college.....but just buy box food also easier for the kids to make....well good luck

spaghetti. if you use hamburger don't do meatballs they use too much meat, crumble the burger and do a meat sauce.
beans, rice, soup, any pasta dish...whole chickens are cheaper than the pieces...eggs...

hot dog casserole

pkg of weiners
potatoes
green beans
cream of mushroom soup

layer the hotdogs after you cut them in bite sizes, and then cut the potatoes in slices, drain green beans and put some, layer all the food and then add cream soup and top with cheese. add cheese on top. bake 45 min 350.
great meal

Believe it or not, beans are inexpensive and very, very healthy, according to my doctor. I have diabetes and they lower sugar and cholesterol. Just make sure you doctor them. Chop up onions and/or garlic and use meat, ground hamburger, turkey burger, ham hocks whatever your family likes. Accompany them with something green and some really good bread and butter.

Jambalaya or beans, rice, and sausage, soup, gumbo, or something with pasta noodles.
This looked like a good website for more detailed recipes.

you can cook anything in a crock pot.....my personaly favorite is chicken noodle soup. all you need is like 3 chicken breasts flour ,eggs and chicken broth.

just cook the chicken breasts in the broth all day then like a half hour before dinner mix flour , 2 eggs, and a little water together to make dough, roll the dough out and cutr into to strips whatever size you want and throw it in the crock pot. and if you have a couple extra carrots or celery cut em up to your desirable size and throw them in and add whatever seasonings you prefer. i use garlic salt , parsley, and pepper!

Here's a quick, easy and inexpensive dish that kids really love.
Chicken and noodles
2 cans chicken broth
1 can cr. of chicken soup
1 can cr. of celery soup
2 cans of chicken or you can use leftover chicken(about 1cup)
bring all of the above to a boil and add about 3/4 of a bag of egg noodles. Preferably the wide ones. Cook uncovered until the noodles are tender. You can always add more chicken if you like and have it.
cook uncovered.

REALLY EASY!!
-penne noodles
-Bavarian sausage-cut up
-ragu/ or spaghetti sauce
-Parmesan and mozzarella cheese

throw this all in a casserole dish or two, stick in the oven at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes. YUM!!:)

OK...get ground meat..about 1.5-2 lbs. the cheapest one you can find, it can be beef, chicken or turkey, one onion, one green pepper, a can of black beans, a head of garlic, some chili poweder, a jalapeno, cumin, salt, pepper, a big can of strewed tomatoes, a small box of frozen corn.

Brown the meat in a pan. Cut up the vegetables (use all the onion and pepper, about 2 clovesof garlic,1/4 jalapeno ) Throw the meat, veggies, tomatoes, corn, beans and spices in the crock pot, cook on slow for about 8 hours. This is delicious, helathy and feeds my fiance and I for about 4 days!

Plus you can alter this...take out the jalapeno/or not too much chili powder to not make it as spicy. And you can add cheese on top when you are serving it.

Top ramen and hot dogs. Then peanut butter and jelly for dessert. That's what I ate growing up.

I grew up learning to cook for 7 people and a low income. We had lots of things like potato soup, spaghetti, goulash, other soups. Here is one that I do now for when I want to cook for a lot of left overs. I put a frozen turkey breast in the crock pot with a can of broth. Cook on low all day. Add a potato and a side dish and you have a meal. Roasts, pork or beef do well in the crock also.

Ramen, granola bars, chips (in a large pack), and if you see a 7 Eleven around, they've got stuff.
