pumpkin with lots of whip cream
I think they pretty much taste the same, however I like the Sweet Potato pie best. I dunno why. Here's the recipe I always use
4 large potatoes
2 cups sugar
1 stick butter
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
1 store-bought pie crust
or your can just line a pan with vanilla wafers
instead
1/2 cup milk
Boil the potatoes until tender. When you stick a
fork in them it should go in easy but you don't
want them to fall apart.
Let the potatoes cool and then peel them.
Put the potatoes in a large mixing bowl and
mash them thoroughly with a potatoe masher.
Melt the butter and pour it and the other
ingredients in the bowl of potatoes. Stir
until well mixed.
Whether you used a ready made pie crust or
just cookies, pour the potatoes mixture
into the crust.
Put into an oven preheated to 375 degrees.
Cook for about 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick
inserted in the center comes out dry.
I like to eat the pie while still hot. It's
good cold too though.
If you want you can make a meringue topping by
blending confectionary sugar with egg whites.
After the pie is almost done, spread the
meringue thinly across the top. Continue baking
until the meringue turns light brown. If you
use the meiangue, you can add the egg yokes
to the pie if you like. I prefer my pie
without eggs, so I just save the yokes for breakfast
Seriously!
I not meaning to sound racist, because I am not! but I always have noticed that african americans like sweet potato pie and caucasians love pumpkin pie, african americans usuallly make there own sweet potato pies rather than buy them because for a long time they weren't sold in stores, many african american products were not sold in stores so we had to be creative and make our own. I'm african american and pumkin pie was foreign to me untill I went away to college. I don't like the taste so much but I love sweet potato. sweet potato is not just african american food its southern food just like grits and collard greens but a lot of african american lived in the south a brought many of there foods with them to the north. so in the north we say its african american cuisine in the south we say its souther cuisine but it is all the same cuisine, o.k I'm rambling on here, sorry, my choice is sweet potato. oh my altime favorite is sweet potato pecan pie it is a two layered pie it has a pecan pie on top and sweet potato pie on the bottom with no crust between the pies. o.k I said enough here, I think I'll make one for thanks giving dinner. the sweet potato pies my mother made were simple with few simple ingredients I dont think she used eggs even, the pies were thick and heavy and had loads of sweet potato mixture in them they were the best not like these store bought ones with all the extra fancy stuff added to it.
Sweet potato pie is my favorite!
